Samsung HW-K950 review

For the longest time my recommendation for people shopping for sound bars was "spend no more than $500." Sound quality doesn't typically take a massive leap beyond this amount, because the necessity of keeping cabinets small and bar-like restricts how...

The Samsung HW-K950 is one of the best sound bars we've ever heard for both movies and music. The dedicated rear speakers deliver increased immersion compared to single-speaker designs. It's cheaper than buying a Dolby Atmos receiver and speakers.

It's expensive for a sound bar, and DTS support is limited. Dolby Atmos is only available on a limited number of titles compared with other surround formats.

The Samsung HW-K950 combines the discreet looks and simple setup of a sound bar with truly impressive sound for both movies and music.

Samsung HW-K950 Dolby Atmos review

Samsung's first Atmos sound bar will make your heart pound and your windows rattle.

Thrilling Dolby Atmos experience ; Excellent matching of all components ; Wireless, hassle-free surround sound ; Rich and powerful bass ; Thin enough to rest beneath your TV

Midrange can be flat and boxy ; No DTS surround sound decoding ; Wireless satellite speakers emit white noise

You’ll pay handsomely for it, but Samsung’s HW-K950 sound bar offers a thrilling Atmos experience that really must be heard to appreciate. If you’ve got to have real Atmos surround sound in a small package — and you don’t mind dumping DTS:X — the...

Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos review

Welcome to the next generation of sound

Incredible sound quality ; Dolby Atmos support ; 4K passthrough ; Good value

Only stereo DTS support ; Needs specific room setup ; Needs the right sources ; Expensive vs non-Atmos products

The K950 is a real flag waver for Samsung's audio division. It's been designed and built completely in house, working closely with Dolby's engineers to perfect the Atmos capabilities - and the results are more spectacular than any sound bar we've heard...

Samsung HW-K950 soundbar gives you wireless Dolby Atmos from the box, we have a listen

We've been harking on about Dolby Atmos and extra height channels in a surround sound setup for a while now, but you've really only been able to replicate the more immersive experience at home for yourself if you had a supported AV receiver. Samsung's...

Samsung HW-K950 review: Fantastic surround-sound — at a price

Highly impressive sound quality, but one too many caveats for a wholehearted recommendation

Atmos Blu-rays sound amazing ; Completely wireless setup ; Good support for streaming services

DTS soundtracks are decoded in stereo ; Occasionally hissy rear speakers ; Expensive for a soundbar

Which makes it such a shame that it has so many irritating shortcomings, especially that it doesn’t deal with DTS-encoded soundtracks properly. In every other sense, the HW-K950 is a five-star product, but such a crazy limitation knocks it out of Best...

Samsung HW-K950

If you fancy getting into Dolby Atmos but don't want to cut holes in your ceiling or cocoon yourself in cables then Samsung's HW-K950 could be the answer.

Samsung’s amazing Atmos soundbar system brings you immersive 3D sound while keeping clutter to a minimum, and delivers Samsung’s best-ever sound quality in the process. Only the overzealous subwoofer lets the side down – and budget buyers need not apply.

Samsung HW-K950 review

  (Rating Hidden)

The Samsung HW-K950 is a behemoth of a sound bar, in size and price. Straddling the line between a sound bar and a surround sound system, it has a separate subwoofer and two rear speakers to give as engrossing an experience as possible. If you're going...

Samsung HW-K950 Dolby Atmos Soundbar Review

Samsung's new HW-K950 soundbar was completely developed in-house and boasts Dolby Atmos, Multiroom and 4K/HDR support, making it their best model yet.

Great audio performance ; Impressive Dolby Atmos support ; 4K/60p, HDCP 2.2 and HDR compliant ; HDMI 2.0a inputs and output ; Samsung Multiroom ; Attractive design ; Excellent construction ; Wireless subwoofer and surrounds

Currently no DTS multi-channel support ; Bass can be a bit heavy ; More HDMI inputs would be nice

The Samsung HW-K950 is a fantastic audio product that delivers in every aspect of its carefully designed performance. The soundbar itself is attractive, with a minimalist appearance that doesn't draw attention to itself. The build quality is excellent...
