Sony DAV-HDX589W

The big upgrade in home-in-a-box systems for 2009 is a built-in Blu-ray player. But those models start at $500. If you don't want to spend that much--and you're not ready for Blu-ray--there are still plenty of home theater systems with "just" DVD. Sony...

All-in-one 5.1 home theater system with built-in five-disc DVD changer; included iPod dock; front tallboy speakers; can play MP3 and JPEG files; quick disc changer.

So-so music performance; rear wireless speakers aren't exactly wireless; disc changer is a bit noisy; costs nearly as much as Blu-ray home theater systems; no video inputs.

If Blu-ray compatibility isn't a consideration, Sony's HAV-HDX589W home theater system offers a good balance of features and quality.

"Great value for the average user; fewer wires to run!"

I bought this all-in-one system to replace a Kenwood system of separate components. I had been using a separate receiver and CD deck for years, and because of my entertainment cabinet and layout of my condo, setting up the Kenwood with multiple...

Ease of setup, simplified connections, sound quality in a small space, wireless rear speaker system eliminated need for wires across thresholds.

No separate volume control for the subwoofer.

"Extremely easy to set-up! Surround sound amazing!"

Great stereo and home theater system. Has great sound and volume. Does get loud and it sounds crystal clear! Sub is my favorite part. It's pretty impressive, and the stereo has an option for extreme base so you feel like your in a concert if you have...

Surround sound is great! Awesome Ipod dock!! Looks classy, The five disk DVD changer is what made the deal for me. The upconverting of DVD to 1080p makes it senseless to get a Blu-Ray right now for me. DVD's looks great!

Remote is kind of cheap for the money spent. You have to change setting (for music) to Multi surround to get full sound affects, rather, it doing it automatically. It does have "pro logic" which is supposed to make it better, but doesn't.

"The system is good but not great"

I purchased this system for my dorm room. It cost me 300$ ( look online you can find much cheaper prices using tools like google ). Initially i was very happy with it. however i later became aware that although the sound can go quite high it is simply...

- The S air system is good and allows for less wires

- Does not sound as powerful as one may have thought

"Pretty Good Home Theater System"

As I love to watch YouTube videos in my Home Theater & TV, I'm planning to spend extra $100 to buy a seperate DMPort adapter (sony compatible) and enjoy this feature.

Awesome sound experience. Very satisfied with the picture quality and surround sound experience. Much better than the Panasonic and Samsung equivalent models.

DMport adapter is causing overheating of my IpodTouch and thereby causing the internet to slow down once it is heated up...very disappointed.

"Can's say as I had the system 10 day when it failed."

My experience with the product has not been good, so far. Once I get the product back from Sony's repair center and have it operating, I will have a better idea of whether the product I received was a fluke or whether there is a problem with the...

It has good sound and not difficult to set up

It's not truly wireless, which would be better.
