IP Telephony

Philips VOIP0801B

Will this help save you money on your phone bills

Compact, easy to use

Not the sturdiest of designs

It attaches to your PC with a USB cable, so isn't exactly handsfree but it works well and the sound quality is clear

Ipevo Solo Skype Desktop Phone

Can this make Skype calls easier to make?

Well built, nice colour screen, don't need computer on

No dual phone function, no video chat support

A waste of time for all but a few niche customers

Philips VOIP841

Philips VOIP841 telephone

By Stuart Miles

- Last year we reviewed Philips Skype handset, the VOIP321, which promised the ability to make Skype calls from a regular DECT-enabled phone rather than having to sit in front of your computer.

No computer needed for day to day running

Not many

This might actually make us want to make Skype calls

NETGEAR SPH200D

Netgear SPH200D Skype Phone

By Davey Winder

Do not make the mistake of thinking about the SPH200D in terms of being a normal cordless telephone with the addition of Skype functionality as a bonus. You would have to be mad to cough up nearly £100 for such a thing. However, turn the assumption on ...

Makes Skype calls away from the PC, simple setup, good voice quality

Price, huge range of hugely annoying ring tones

At last, a handset for using Skype away from the PC that doesn't feel and sound like a toy!

Philips VOIP 321 / 3211 / 3212

Don't get us wrong we like Skype as much as the next person, it's just we never want to sit in front of our PC to use it.Skype perhaps realising the same thing has teamed up with Philips to ...

Allows you to easily switch between Skype and landline calls, easy to use and install, phone and basestation don't have to sit next to each other

Need to have the computer turned on and connected to Skype, doesn't work on any other OS

Anything that makes Skype easier to use has got to be a godsend when it comes to using the service and while we've had this phone on test, we found that we've used the Voice over IP application more than without it.
