Altec Lansing im600 Review

We have seen that iPod docks and Personal All-in-one Speaker Systems for the iPod are so plentiful that they are now just about everywhere. This year, it seems

Logitech's mm50 finally gets some competition.

Altec Lansing's newest portable speaker system for the iPod, the iM600, is a complete package: good sound, lots of features, and a reasonable price.

Very good sound quality for the size ; solid FM tuner ; infrared remote control with excellent range ; rechargeable battery ; syncs with computer ; radio tunes from 76.0 to 108.0

Battery life not as good as that of many other portable iPod speakers ; FM radio doesn't have region-specific modes, so you have to tune through all frequencies ; no carrying case or pouch ; doesn't automatically turn off iPod

Like the mm50, the iM600 includes a built-in rechargeable battery which charges in approximately three hours using the included AC adapter. Altec Lansing rates the battery at 7 hours of continuous playback. I actually saw longer playback times than...

Review: Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 Digital Speaker System for iPod

As we've mentioned in past reviews, Altec Lansing basically created the portable iPod speaker category with its inMotion speakers, and through innovative designs has helped to radically expand and improve the category: the tube-like boombox iM7,...

A beautifully designed portable iPod speaker system with excellent value for the price, incorporating an FM radio tuner, universal iPod dock, rechargeable 7-hour battery, and stereo speakers into a slim, fold-open enclosure. Roughly the peer on overall...

Though generally impressive, and sometimes superior, FM radio and iPod sound quality are occasionally slightly below the levels of top peer products ; average users won't mind. Radio uses an odd full-spectrum tuner that's not optimized for any...

We just started having the same problem with our IM600. No sound unless we pull the Nano forward. Going to take ours back

Don't buy it. For $140 the product should be more durable. While it works, sound quality is pretty good.

Good sound quality and battery life

After about 18 months of not too frequent use, the electronics began failing. Now it works only intermittently. For $140 it should be more durable

There is nothing that I like about it

I have had this for just over a year. It has not worked for about 2 months. Can't turn it on or anything. I have only used it about 20 times. Oh well, my Akai gettoblaster that is 30 years old works great

Buy Bose instead!"

Obviously, from all the other reviews as well...

Minimal features, barely adequate sound. I-pod dock failed after less than 1 year of light use. What a piece of crap

Obviously, from all the other reviews as well, customer support is non-existent. This company should be ashamed of themselves...they used to make quality gear and stand behind their product. Not anymore. Shop elsewhere.

Does not last!!! After seeing this ipod doc at a friend's house, I bought two of these, one for home and one for my work. Both of them failed. In one the ipod doc stopped working, in the other the unit just stopped working. The one at my friend's house...

Sound and battery life are good, but

Radio picks up too much static

Product Specifications

The Altec Lansing iM600 sound system offers stereo sound from dual 2-inch neodymium drivers optimized for high-frequency extension (better highs, in other words). It offers more power and output than any other system in its class and, what's more, it features Altec Lansing engineering innovation called the Stereo Field Expander: SFX for short. SFX makes the speakers sound further apart than they really are, giving the user a heightened stereo effect. The iM600 also features a stereo FM radio and can double as a clock radio when plugged in to an electrical outlet (AC adapter included). It includes rechargeable Li-ion batteries and a wireless remote. And it syncs and charges all dockable iPod models. Whether on the go or on your desk or tabletop, the iM600 resets the expectations for features and performance in a sound solution for the iPod.
