Philips Fidelio AS851 Review

Android speaker docks are comparatively rare beasts. Several manufacturers offer models specifically tailored for their own handsets, but the market for generic docks has failed to ignite in the same way as iPhone and iPod peripherals have flourished....

Still, for casual listening, the Philips Fidelio AS851 packs a hefty punch and looks the part. Philips’ docking system is clever and the flexibility of the Bluetooth/app setup leaves plenty of room for the various media apps proliferating on Android....

Philips Fidelio AS851 Docking Speaker for Android Review

Android users have a virtually unlimited choice when it comes to smartphone hardware, and it's one of the most important advantages of the platform. Unfortunately a wide variety of hardware inexorably means a smaller selection of accessories,...

The Fidelio dock is a nice piece of audio equipment, even if it is unfortunately brought low by the limitations of Bluetooth. As an Android speaker dock it’s at the head of a very small pack. You should have no problem connecting any Android phone, and...

Philips Fidelio AS851 review

Featuring two 15W 3-inch speakers, a microUSB 'flexidock', Bluetooth connectivity, a slick design and a £200 price tag, it's a premium product for sure. But is it really the Android dock that users are looking for?

First Android dock ; Pairs with any Bluetooth device ; Nice build and design

Too fiddly ; Poor sound quality ; Exensive ; Not for all Android devices

Philips Fidelio AS851 review

If you were to head to the shops to buy an iPhone dock you would be spoilt for choice. There aren't just dozens, there are hundreds, nay thousands to chose from. They range from pocket options, full blown speaker systems, to ones that even look like pigs.

Works with all Android phones, charges your phone at the same time, sounds good, app is easy to use, pairing really simple

Could be too large for some

If you’re an Android smartphone user and are looking for a music solution that lets you charge your phone as well, this is definitely one to consider.

Philips Fidelio AS851

A Fidelio dock designed specifically for Android devices. What madness is this?

Decent sound quality ; Versatile

Slightly fiddly to use ; Uses lossy Bluetooth ; A bit expensive

Also hidden from view, the Philips AS851 has a USB port and an auxiliary 3.5mm input, on its back in-between the dual bass ports. The USB socket doesn't let you plug in a memory stick to play back your MP3s, but it will supply power for another device...

Philips Fidelio AS851 Docking Speaker for Android review

There are hundreds of iPod docks around but Philips's Fidelio AS851 is the first dedicated dock for Android devices we've seen. There are a number of practical problems inherent in creating an Android dock, the most obvious of which is that there isn't...

We like the idea of an Android device dock, but this one's too expensive and too fiddly to use

Philips Fidelio AS851 speaker

Geek Treat of the Week Philips' Fidelio speakers for iOS - such as the DS9 [1] - have gotten a big thumbs-up from us in the past, and now Philips has released a new range specifically designed for Android devices.

A good quality set of Bluetooth speakers – but not quite as Android-specific as Philips claims.

Philips Fidelio AS851 Android speaker dock review

Philips has provided a much needed speaker dock for Android devices that impressed us with its compact and innovative design. The AS851 provides good sound quality at an affordable price but you do need to use Bluetooth for connection.

The dock comes in a curvy black design that is stylish but not all that striking. It has good build quality with a black mesh covering the speakers on the front, the docking section with chrome surround and a row of buttons and lights. Turn the dock...
