Philips Fidelio Primo DS9000 - HardwareZone.com

The all-new Fidelio Primo DS9000 is Philip's flagship docking music system. Designed to work with iPods and iPhones, the Fidelio DS9000 combines winning looks and outstanding audio performance in a compact package.

Excellent sound; Classy, simple design; Costs markedly less than the Zeppelin

Fidelio app feels half-hearted; No way to access sound settings without Fidelio app

Philips Fidelio DS9000 review

The Philips Fidelio DS9000 audiophile iPod dock is a class act through and through. Featuring a distinctive curvy design and 3.5mm audio output it's certainly high-tech but is it worth the £400 price tag?

Philips Fidelio DS9000 review

iPod docks come in all shapes and sizes, most arriving around the £100-150 mark, offering a range of features the most useful of which is the ability to get the tunes off your iPod or iPhone and into your room. Many suffer from the same problem too -...

Looks, build, sound quality

The Philips app knocks out some of the remote control functions, remote isn't the same quality, it's an expensive luxury

If your music collection resides on your iPod and you want excellent room-filling delivery of that music, then the Philips Fidelio DS9000 is great choice for those who have a little spare cash

Philips takes on the mighty B&W Zeppelin.

Philips Fidelio DS9000 review

Philips' new Fidelio DS9000 is a high-end iPod dock, and you're left in no doubt where your money went when you struggle to lift it out of the box. Not only does it weigh a reassuring 6.5kg, but it's also curved and smooth, so there's not much to get...

Not quite as beautiful as the B&W Zeppelin, but audio quality is on a par. The only niggle is the lack of a bass control to tame the low frequencies.

Philips Fidelio Primo DS9000 review

The Philips Fidelio Primo DS9000 offers great sound quality and a pleasing design, even if it does have a few sonic quirks. It's no better than the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin iPod speaker, but it's worthy competition.

Impressive sound quality ; Precise and powerful bass

Expensive ; Bulky ; Not ideal for rock music

Philips might not have the same legacy of quality that B&W has, but, in our estimation, the Fidelio Primo DS9000 is a worthy rival to the Zeppelin. It's not any better and it suffers from some of the same sonic quirks that afflict B&W's dock. In the...

Philips Fidelio DS9000/10

Philips takes on the mighty B&W Zeppelin.

Peerless sound quality' says the Philips DS9000 product page. Not quite; there is no hiding that this is a device with a price and audio quality aimed squarely at the same audience as the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin. Is the DS9000 a better speaker dock?...

A genuine alternative to a B&W Zeppelin - but you can do better

Lovely looks, finish; punchy, resolute, room-filling sound

Big volumes affect its composure which undermines its USP somewhat

Philips Fidelio Primo DS9000

The Philips Fidelio Primo iPod dock is a classy looking and sounding unit which, with a little home ingenuity, can rival docks worth twice as much.

Beautiful build ; Powerful sound ; Capable of finesse as well ; One of the loudest docks available ; Deep bass ; On-board Fidelio app

Eraser sold separately ; Bass can be lumpy ; Distorts at high volume

The Philips Fidelio Primo is probably the most "hi-fi" iPod dock you'll find at this price, but unless you're installing this on a desk directly in front of you you're not going to get the best sound. While you could get all MacGyver on the Philips,...
