This wireless dock lets you stream lossless tunes round your house. But does the sound impress?

Wireless music so often falls short of expectations, but the PDX-50 really delivers

Wireless music so often falls short of expectations, but the PDX-50 really delivers

Lossless wireless transmission ; great sound for a dock ; sensibly small transmitter

Bass is a touch detached

The Yamaha PDX-50 is similar to the Bose SoundLink, but instead of playing music from your Mac it streams music directly from your iPod or iPhone.

Easy to listen to; controlled directly from iPod/iPhone

Very average build quality; limited wireless range

It's still a worthy product, but close rivals have gained the edge

The Yamaha PDX-50 is an iPod speaker dock – with no sign of a physical dock on board. That's because it's totally wireless, sucking up tunes from your iPod via a clip-on dongle. So does it deliver cable-free quality, or are its cordless capabilities...

Simple design and clear audio

Charging requires separate dock

A nifty, capable iPod dock with some of the finest wireless tech we've encountered

Transmit uncompressed audio from your iPhone / iPod touch to the Yamaha PDX-50 immediately.

Idiot-proof and clever wireless technology, decent sound, good looking

Sound could be more defined, the handheld iPod dock feels a bit vulnerable

Sound is pleasing without being exceptional, and the handheld element could be sturdier. Overall, though, the PDX-50 is a fun option.

Yamaha PDX 50 and Veho360 : Yamaha PDX 50 & Veho 360

Two very different approaches to music through a speaker. First the rather grand Yamaha offering that enables your iPod to be located away from the speaker. Second a small (fits in pocket) speaker to give a good sound for iPod or MP3.

This seems like an easy mix. Place your iPod in the wireless sender that fits around your iPod it sends signals to the speaker and sound comes out. Not what happened for me, I assumed (wrongly) that the speaker was faulty and a replacement was sent,...

Great sound, looks good and very compact. Has a high volume for such a small unit ; Great that the phone is the remote

Occasionally gets interference from wireless Internet or anytime plus box, but easily rectified by moving the phone closer and placing the cradle in the rechargeable stand
