Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Review

Great key mechanisms, strong build, just the right number of features

Attracts fingerprints, noisy, doesn’t offer many more features than $50-cheaper basic model

Razer, long known for its high-end gaming mice, has had sort of a slow start when it comes to gaming keyboards. Its offerings haven’t been bad, but the company hasn’t had a must-have product yet. The BlackWidow is Razer’s first.

Razer Blade review (2014): a 'no-compromise' premium gaming laptop

More often than not, I feel like my feedback -- both as a customer and a writer -- vanishes into a collapsing singularity of customer service. And yet,

Fast and powerful ; Great 3,200 x 1,800 display ; Slim, compact and attractive

Expensive ; Screen resolution can undercut performance ; Shorter battery life than the 2013 model

The newest Razer Blade is the company's best laptop yet, but it trades epic battery life for an exceptional display.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition

The Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth is the quieter edition of Razer's popular mechanical keyboard; however, softening the sound has left the typing experience a little stiffer.

Less clacking noise. Matte finish staves off fingerprint and smudge marks. Downloadable software has easy to use UI. Macro editing available

Keys aren't as light as previous model

Razer Black Widow Ultimate

The Razer Black Widow Ultimate keyboard provides users with a light and springy typing experience, but personal taste may set in when considering the clicky keys.

Typing experience is light and springy. Backlighting. Fully customizable keyboard. Macro editing. Keyboard's downloadable software has easy to use UI

Can't adjust the color of the backlighting like in other Razer models. Glossy frame attracts smudges

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

To a certain extent Razer has made its own life difficult with the BlackWidow Ultimate. This $125 mechanical keyboard offers an impressively responsive typing experience, but we don't find its backlighting or spare USB jack and audio ports enough to...

Cherry MX Blue mechanical-key switches offer one of the most satisfying typing experiences available; backlighting helps you game in the dark; on-the-fly macro recording; intuitive driver software.

Backlighting and a few spare ports don't justify the $40 premium over the non-Ultimate BlackWidow.

At $125, the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate is a competitively priced mechanical gaming keyboard in its range. We just wish Razer had done more to set this "Ultimate" edition apart from Razer's more affordable standard BlackWidow.

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate

The BlackWidow Ultimate is a unique keyboard that provides a bit of subtle satisfaction with its clunky mechanical keys

A pricey but competent gaming keyboard that's built like a tank and packs tons of features.

Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2014

The Razer Black Widow Ultimate is a sleek-looking keyboard. Find out how it compares to other gaming keyboards in our full review.

Powerful customization and a solid feature set make this keyboard attractive

This keyboard is limited to 6KRO and only comes with Razer Green switches

The Razer Black Widow Ultimate is a powerful and compelling gaming keyboard with a couple small shortcomings.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate review

Paying a premium for a keyboard is rare most of the time when you are assembling a PC, but once in a while a keyboard with the distinctive clickety-click sound comes along and is almost as expensive as a decent graphic card. One such mechanical...

Priced at £74, the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate is, according to us, asking for too much moolah. In fact, if you do not want any of the fancy features like the backlighting, the macro keys or the USB port then you can go ahead and buy the standard...

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition

The BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition remains an expensive item to add to your gaming collection — but it also remains an excellent keyboard, and one that's now a bit quieter. Just make sure you buy it from the US.

Excellent responsiveness with reduced noise ; USB and headphone/mic pass-throughs give ease of access to ports ; Flexible macro and customisation system

Unconscionable local price mark-up ; Blue backlight may be difficult to see for some

The BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition remains an expensive item to add to your gaming collection — but also remains an excellent keyboard, and one that's now a bit quieter.
