Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Review

Great key mechanisms, strong build, just the right number of features

Attracts fingerprints, noisy, doesn’t offer many more features than $50-cheaper basic model

Razer, long known for its high-end gaming mice, has had sort of a slow start when it comes to gaming keyboards. Its offerings haven’t been bad, but the company hasn’t had a must-have product yet. The BlackWidow is Razer’s first.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition

The Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth is the quieter edition of Razer's popular mechanical keyboard; however, softening the sound has left the typing experience a little stiffer.

Less clacking noise. Matte finish staves off fingerprint and smudge marks. Downloadable software has easy to use UI. Macro editing available

Keys aren't as light as previous model

Razer Black Widow Ultimate

The Razer Black Widow Ultimate keyboard provides users with a light and springy typing experience, but personal taste may set in when considering the clicky keys.

Typing experience is light and springy. Backlighting. Fully customizable keyboard. Macro editing. Keyboard's downloadable software has easy to use UI

Can't adjust the color of the backlighting like in other Razer models. Glossy frame attracts smudges

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

To a certain extent Razer has made its own life difficult with the BlackWidow Ultimate. This $125 mechanical keyboard offers an impressively responsive typing experience, but we don't find its backlighting or spare USB jack and audio ports enough to...

Cherry MX Blue mechanical-key switches offer one of the most satisfying typing experiences available; backlighting helps you game in the dark; on-the-fly macro recording; intuitive driver software.

Backlighting and a few spare ports don't justify the $40 premium over the non-Ultimate BlackWidow.

At $125, the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate is a competitively priced mechanical gaming keyboard in its range. We just wish Razer had done more to set this "Ultimate" edition apart from Razer's more affordable standard BlackWidow.

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate

The BlackWidow Ultimate is a unique keyboard that provides a bit of subtle satisfaction with its clunky mechanical keys

A pricey but competent gaming keyboard that's built like a tank and packs tons of features.

"Great and impressive keyboard."

I enjoy the craftmanship of this keyboard. being on the computer late night and having those lights makes it a device I wish I had for a long time before. For now I'm a proud owner.

I find this device can take a beating. The price is right. The devices roars out quality.

None. I'll use this as a wishlist. Maybe have the ability to change colors and on selective keys.

mechanical keyboard that delivers!

overall the Razer Blackwidow is a great keyboard. The only downside of this is no wrist rest but it seems that the keyboard can go without it.

cherry mx blue switches ; braided cable ; 50+ million keystrokes life expectancy ; great tactile feedback

no wrist rest

"Overall a pretty decent keyboard."

I love this keyboard for typing. I love the Cherry Blue keys even though they are very loud. I had to have backlights because of the darker area where my computer is and this fits the bill. The glossy surface is a bit of a pain though but I can put up...

Cherry blue mechanical keys, blue backlighting, heavy weight, responsive.

Shift functions on keys are not backlit, odd font for R makes me mistake it for a T sometimes, no separate keys for media (must use a function "shift" key with a function key). Volume control is just buttons (tap tap tap...listen...tap tap tap).

worth the money!

its a a good keyboard and it has solid build, and a all around good keyboard

clicking noise very responsive. has a gaming button that disables the windows key so you don't hit it while playing games. very simple to set up macros. and its blue black-lit makes it good value

glossy finish around the keys does attract finger prints but that's a small price to pay for this sweet keyboard
