Razer BlackWidow X Chroma review: A beautiful keyboard, but kind of a pain

Razer's stripped-down BlackWidow X Chroma isn't so much an improvement over the original BlackWidow as a lateral move. One that gathers a lot of dust.

New work-friendly sans-serif typeface ; Trendy stripped-down design ; Same weighty construction as the standard BlackWidow

A safe-haven for dust ; Some light leakage, like Corsair's K70 ; Can't change color of status indicator lights

Razer’s new BlackWidow X isn’t so much an improvement over the original BlackWidow as a lateral move. If you like the new stripped-down look and don’t mind dusting, it’s a solid choice. Otherwise, go with the original.

Razer BlackWidow X Chroma review

The BlackWidow X series is the perfect introduction to mechanical keyboards.

Our review unit was the BlackWidow X Chroma, a full-sized board with the Chroma RGB lighting system. It goes for $160, $10 less than the non-X version. Depending on key switch choice, that’s either the same price or slightly more than RGB-equipped...

Razer BlackWidow X Chroma Review and Ratings

Flashy RGB lighting, snappy Razer house-brand keys, and a rugged chassis set apart this mechanical keyboard. We'd just like to see some tweaks to the software scheme.

Solid, metal-backed frame ; Handsome "surround-less" appearance ; Unlimited game profiles ; Profiles can be linked to individual games ; 10-key rollover ; Flexible, braided cord

Macro editor ; Account and password required to activate configuration software ; Some counter-intuitive layout choices ; No USB pass-through, headphone input, or volume dial

We've already explained at length our quibbles with how the BlackWidow X Chroma and its Synapse software do some things. One matter we haven't touched upon, though, is the unit's price point.

Razer Blackwidow X Chroma Review

Since their introduction in 2010 the Blackwidow range of keyboards from Razer have been impressive products. Probably the worst thing that could be said about them was that there were too many with too few changes between models, though some would...

We’ve always been fans of the Blackwidow build quality and that continues on the X Chroma. The metal frame feels great and the keyboard has a decent weight which ensures it stays steady on our desk. The matt finish is nicely applied and as far as the...

Razer BlackWidow X Chroma Review — Style at a Cost

The BlackWidow X Chroma is one of the coolest-looking keyboards I've reviewed. It's also intuitive and a little cheaper than its standard counterpart, but what you gain in savings, you may lose in typing proficiency. I found that the low-profile metal...

New design looks awesome ; Decent mechanical switches ; Beautiful RGB lighting

Appearance interferes with typing ; No USB pass-through ; Basically, just another BlackWidow

The Razer BlackWidow X Chroma has responsive mechanical switches, great software and solid performance, but its unique design can make typing a challenge.

Razer BlackWidow X Chroma

Razer's latest gaming keyboard is a intriguing prospect – a high-end mechanical unit that doesn't use the near-ubiquitous Cherry MX switches.

One Minute Review: Razer Blackwidow X Chroma gaming keyboard

The Chroma looks great... but goes downhill from there.

... Razer switches continue to hold this keyboard back.

Razer BlackWidow X Chroma Review

Razer's new range of raised key mechanical keyboards is here, and we've got the flagship

Mechanical RGB keyboards are rarely cheap, though there are some sub-£100 models out now. At £135, this one is another expensive one, but it is £15 less than the MSRP of the original BlackWidow Chroma and of the K70 RGB's current asking price. It may...

awsome keyboard

bought this to replace an aging keyboard after a lot of research decided on this keyboard over the other options and after using it solid for a week with some intense gaming 25 man raids and the like has not let me down the lighting is great and easy...

RAZER BlackWidow X Chroma Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Very nice keyboard and very reliable. The lighting is very nice to have with my set up and really does stand out. The software is very easy to use to change all the colours and play around with the different settings. 10/10

The price is unfortunately a bit of a let down. Very expensive.
