Review Asus Zenbook UX51VZ (U500VZ) Notebook

Zen Master. Upscale looks, slim build, and extremely powerful: un

premium aluminum chassis; non-glare IPS display; very high overall performance; good gaming performance; outstanding input devices; powerful 2.1 sound system; very good port selection

high price; too noisy during idle; limited upgradabillity; no DisplayPort

The main competitor is without a question the even higher-quality (if by a slim margin), but much more expensive Apple MacBook Pro 15 Retina. Depending on the usage scenario, other notebooks might also be candidates: the Dell XPS 15, Sony Vaio...

ASUS Zenbook UX51Vz (2013) Review

The ASUS Zenbook UX51Vz offers a high-resolution display and strong performance in a thin design, but it doesn't come cheap.

Crisp and colorful Retina-like display; Blazing fast SSDs; Strong performance and graphics; Comfortable typing experience

Windows 8 not optimized for high-res screens; Below-average battery life; Expensive; Runs hot

The ASUS Zenbook UX51Vz offers a high-resolution display and strong performance in a thin design, but it doesn't come cheap.

ASUS Zenbook UX51VZ: Great Laptop, High Price

I have quite a few laptops that have been languishing in a non-fully-reviewed state for a while. The New Year has been a bit crazy, and in the midst of trying to update the benchmark suite and some other items, the time for a full review is long since...

I really like the UX51VZ, but there have been a few flies in the ointment. One is that WiFi connectivity is intermittent—there’s a workaround that involves disabling Bluetooth support, but while I can live with that it’s not ideal for many people....

Asus Zenbook UX51Vz-DH71 review:

It seems like there just aren't a lot of options when it comes to premium larger-screen Windows 8 laptops. And those that we do see, like the Acer Aspire S7 and HP Spectre TouchSmart XT , typically don't have discrete graphics.

Cased in aluminum, the Asus Zenbook UX51Vz-DH71 is an impressive-looking laptop with an excellent 15-inch screen, a strong combo of components, and prime performance.

A premium price to match its high-end design and components; no touch screen to take full advantage of the Windows 8 interface.

The Asus Zenbook UX51Vz-DH71 is a nice fit for anyone looking for premium looks and performance in a Windows 8 laptop who is willing to pay for it.

Asus ZenBook UX51Vz-DH71

The Asus ZenBook UX51Vz-DH71 ($1,869.99 list) is a high-end ultraportable for power users like multimedia mavens and part-time gamers. Its speedy SSD RAID array, 1080p screen, Core i7 processor, beefy discrete graphics and other performance-oriented...

1080p IPS screen. Quad-core i7 processor. Nvidia GT 650M graphics. Twin SSDs in a RAID array. Subwoofer. Good sound for a laptop. Additional damage and screen warranty protections

Mini-VGA, not Mini-DisplayPort. No touch screen. Middling battery life

The Asus ZenBook UX51Vz-DH71 is a power users' ultraportable, with a quad-core CPU and high-end 3D graphics. Middling battery life and "only" a 1080p screen keep if from earning our top honors.

ASUS Zenbook Prime review (UX51Vz): a blazing 15-inch Ultrabook with a lofty price

Windows 8 has ushered in an era of category-defying devices, with hybrid machines that bend, flip around, lie flat and otherwise contort flooding the

1080p IPS display offers good viewing angles ; Sleek design, comfortable keyboard ; Excellent performance

Underwhelming battery life ; Expensive

The Zenbook Prime UX51Vz is easily the most powerful Ultrabook available, but underwhelming battery life -- and a sky-high price tag -- temper our enthusiasm somewhat.

Gorgeous, ultra-slim design, Excellent performance, Stellar sound system, Great screen, keyboard, and touch pad

Steep price, No touch screen to navigate Windows 8, No onboard optical drive, VGA port requires dongle

All that helps ease the Asus' mild case of sticker shock—as does the Zenbook's strong performance and elegant design. If you want a bigger screen than you'll get in another four-pound portable and won't miss a built-in optical drive, tons of storage...
