Powerful Graphics Rendering for a 13" Subnotebook; Good Craftsmanship, Nice Design; Good Battery Life; Low System Noise; Low Case Temps; Speedy Hard Drive; Good Application Performance; Good Keyboard; Light Weight

Few Ports, Badly Placed; Weak Contrast, Few Viewing Angles; No DVD Drive; Bulky, Heavy Power Supply

Nvidia alternatives: Sony Vaio VPC-Z12 or Z13: starting at 1,800 Euro; Sony Vaio VPC-CW2S1E/B: 14.1" with DVD drive; Alienware M11x R2: 11.6" but thick, bulky and expensive.

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830TG-6431

A few years ago, the Acer TimelineX was one of the first of what we then called "thin and light" laptops, 13-inchers with sleeker, lighter frames, long battery life, and a more easily portable design than a standard notebook.

At under $800, the Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG-6431 is one of the most affordable thin laptops we've seen. It makes few compromises and packs impressive Nvidia graphics into a very compact, portable design

The lack of an optical drive is frustrating, since other laptops of similar size such as the Sony Vaio S and Toshiba Portege R835 do include one

The aggressively priced Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG-6431's combination of gaming-ready graphics and a fast processor in a 13-inch body offers a great punch for a good price, provided you can live without a DVD drive.

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-5246

Acer's Timeline series of laptops was one of the first to emphasize long battery life in a slim, but full-powered system. Since the first Timeline laptops hit in the first half of 2009, many other PC makers have been able to match thin designs with...

Thin design; long battery life; large keyboard.

No optical drive; not as exceptional as it used to be.

Acer's TimelineX is still a slim-profile, long-lasting 13-inch laptop, but it's no longer the only contender in that category.

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830TG-6431

The Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830TG-6431 offers a list of strengths as long as its unwieldy name. Acer started with a thin, attractive shell for this 13.3-inch laptop, then added the latest performance components and a long-lasting battery. The result?...

Thin, attractive chassis ; Surprisingly good 3D and productivity performance ; Above-average battery life, audio quality

No optical drive ; Battery not user-replaceable ; No keyboard backlight

This 13.3-inch notebook offers an attractively thin design and strong performance in a low-cost package. Just be aware of the sealed-in battery and lack of a DVD drive.

Thin-and-light laptop

Many sleek ultraportable laptops cost well over $1,000, but the 4-pound Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830TG-6431 delivers a lightweight and sleek design for much less. Reviewers say the Acer laptop is an excellent value -- it's stocked with a...

Thin and light, second-generation Intel Core processor, good battery life

Small touchpad, not good for gaming, no optical drive

Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG review – power and style

If you would have told me a couple of years ago I would one day praise the looks and build quality of an Acer laptop, I would have lough in your face so hard. Still, that day has come today, with the Acer Aspir...

All in all, I have to say this 13.3 inch TimelineX is an interesting portable laptop. Never thought I would get to say that, but I actually like it. It is solid built, sturdy and powerful. Plus, it is very light and compact, and that battery life...

2010 Back to School Guide: Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820T

The TimelineX 3820T is a great notebook for the mobile student on a budget, but it's low-quality display and flat keyboard may drive away some picky users.

Great battery life ; Packed with performance ; Roomy multi-gesture touchpad

Low-quality display ; Keyboard is somewhat flat

The one i purchased is the 3830tg-6634.

At first I purchased the timelinex 3830t-6634 or something like that and that one did not have a discrete gpu on it so I returned it and got this one instead. That one did not have any issues whatsoever, and i am stating that cuz I read a review here...

1) Fast ; 2) Battery life (level 2 brightness lasts 8 hours with gpu turned off) ; 3) Sleek Design ; 4) Great keyboard (not like other acer cheap laptop ones) ; 5) Runs cold even after being turned on for ages ; 6) Came with i5 2450 instead of i5 2430! :D
