Acer Aspire 5000

The Acer Aspire 5000 comes at a nice price for students as well as for home and small-business users. Somewhat small for a desktop replacement, it features AMD's new Turion processor, which delivers good productivity performance, though gamers and...

Inexpensive; wide-screen display; includes most important ports and connections; relatively light for its size; includes double-layer DVD burner; 64-bit capable.

Dim display; underpowered graphics; slow hard drive; no FireWire or S-Video ports; tinny speakers.

The unexciting yet inexpensive Acer Aspire 5000 is a decent desktop-replacement laptop for basic home and small business use.

Acer Aspire AS5000

The first system to ship that has the new AMD Turion 64 processor, the Acer Aspire 5000 is good for basic computer users—not multimedia mavens.

Great price. DVD±RW drive.

Integrated graphics. No FireWire port.

Acer Aspire 5002 WLMi US Notebook Review (pics, specs)

After searching for several months for a laptop that satisfied both my inner geek and my very limited budget of $1,000, I stumbled upon the Acer Aspire 5002 in a Black Friday sale. After about a week working with this laptop, I find it to be a great...

Acer Aspire 5000 Series AMD Turion 64 Notebook Review (pics, specs)

I was more or less ready to buy an Acer Aspire 1690 series Pentium M notebook, when AMD announced the competing Turion 64 CPU and Acer announced the Aspire 5020 series using it. This Aspire 5020 series looked quite similar to the Aspire 1690 series and...

good value for money: cheaper than a Pentium M (760) system but performance comes very close excellent graphics adapter up to three and a half hours battery life large and clear 15.4" CrystalBrite screen

memory only running at 133 MHz - why Acer ? 4200rpm hard disk keyboard gives way at left side fan rather noisy when at full speed no Bluetooth

Acer Aspire 5000 AS5002WLMi with AMD Turion 64 Mobile 1.6GHz Notebook

The Acer Aspire 5000 is one of the lower priced of Acer's laptop range. Coming in at just over 6lbs it features in the desktop replacement category. It is fairly well featured and at the new lower price range will give you more bang for your buck than...

Finally the DVD writer is an added bonus at this price point. The usual CD writer / DVD combo drives are alright, but the DVD writer will save you one potential upgrade in the future.

Acer Aspire 5002WLMi laptop

If you had asked us 12 months ago how cheap a notebook could get and still offer plenty of punch, we don't think we'd have said as little as £565, but we would have said that one company who would be at the front of the super-budget notebook would be...

64-bit processor, bargain price

Poor graphics

At the cheap end of the market you can’t expect too much in the way of surprises but the Aspire manages to deliver on a number of points: you’ll find it powerful enough for most tasks and the widescreen panel is great to view. We’d expect that a nature...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

overall excellent

Bought it for my daughter who is a graduate student. Excellent performance/price ratio. Quiet and fast in stock form. No need to buy extra RAM. Highly recommended with cons below

Screen is shiny, but otherwise excellent. Best to reformat the whole computer with NTFS and 20G program and 80G data with XP professional

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Wonderful

Bought this laptop to replace my aging desktop. It's not the greatest thing you can buy, but it's also not the most expensive. Keep in mind you'll need to buy a case and most likely a real mouse if you're using this as your primary CPU. Other than that...

Great Price, adequate hardware for my needs, great service and shipping from Newegg. Waaaay to much crapware installed, but after I installed WinXP and then the Acer drivers from their website - no problems

Thought I could upgrade memory by just buying a 1GB card, but slots are 2x512mb, which I didn't realize (my fault) - but now would have to buy a 2gb card to upgrade and be left with 2 useless mem cards
