Acer Aspire 5553G review

The Acer Aspire 5553G is a good all-rounder, offering impressive performance for a machine of its price. It looks pretty boring though

Powerful quad-core CPU ; Bright display ; Not too pricey

Looks bland ; Lid collects fingerprints

The Acer Aspire 5553G bakes some pretty tasty components into a rather affordable pie. It's a shame that this laptop's design is so bland, but that may not matter to you if you're mainly concerned with performance. Before laying down your lucre, also...

This 15.6in laptop is one of the cheapest quad-core laptops you're likely to find.

Quad-core CPU ; Relatively cheap

Average performance ; Average keyboard ; Glossy plastic lid

It might be cheap for a quad-core laptop, but the Acer Aspire 5553G doesn't deliver outstanding performance or value. It's a solid laptop, but the price needs to come down further before it's worth looking into.

Acer Aspire 5553G-N934G32Mn review

It's fair to say that Intel's ruled the roost when it comes to high-performance mobile processors. AMD's starting to fight back, though, and the Acer Aspire 5553G is the first laptop we've seen to use AMD's latest processor, the 2GHz quad-core Phenom...

AMD's new mobile processor is a step up from its previous models, but still lags behind Intel in terms of performance. As it stands, you can get laptops that are faster than the 5553G for less.

This is a very good pc - it is perfect for heavy gaming and has a very nice design. However, this pc has Windows 7 64 bit with no option on downgrading to Windows 7 32 bit which is a shame as users cannot use programs and devices that have 32 bit drivers.

I own this model and feel pretty satisfied with it. There are some major differences though, that I cannot find on the web. Surprisingly my HDD is 640gb against the 320 on the general specs and my graphics card is also superior, is ATI Mobile Radeon HD...

Slim, light and powerful

Short battery life
