Acer Aspire 5553G

This 15.6in laptop is one of the cheapest quad-core laptops you're likely to find.

Quad-core CPU ; Relatively cheap

Average performance ; Average keyboard ; Glossy plastic lid

Having noted the relative paucity of noteworthy features, it's a trend continued with the connectivity. All the basics are present and correct, including four USB ports, HDMI, VGA and a memory card reader, but niceties such as FireWire, eSATA or...

AMD's new mobile processor is a step up from its previous models, but still lags behind Intel in terms of performance. As it stands, you can get laptops that are faster than the 5553G for less.

Acer Aspire 5553G-N934G32Mn review

It's fair to say that Intel's ruled the roost when it comes to high-performance mobile processors. AMD's starting to fight back, though, and the Acer Aspire 5553G is the first laptop we've seen to use AMD's latest processor, the 2GHz quad-core Phenom...

With the quad-core cpu and 8GB memory, this PC absolutely flies! Non-integrated graphics card really helps keeps the speed up - plays World of Warcraft without a glitch!

Acer Aspire 5553G-956G75Mn

Runs smoothly, good performance all round. Fan is blessedly quiet compared to many other laptops. Quite light considering its size.

Not really usable as a portable laptop - its a bit too big and the battery life a little too short. Also there is a LOT of bloatware on the product that is totally unnecessary.

Acer Aspire 5553G-956G75Mn

I always buy Acer

Would prefer the mouse-pad to be central rather than offset to the left of centre, but it's only a minor gripe

Acer Aspire 5553-933G32Mn

Nice laptop, good performance overall - does everything I needed it for

64 bit Windows 7 is flaky - crashed on me recently and required a complete replacement of the hard drive. This is the only downside to the product.

Laptop needed

I bought this laptop as a replacement for a dell and have not regreted it. It was very good value for money and provides all the support and speed I require.
