Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839 Review

It may not fit in an average laptop bag and you could look a little comical trying to peck away at it on the local bus, but a really big notebook with a really big display pleases us. While the Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839 didn't impress us in terms of...

Very large screen and excellent surround sound speakers; surprisingly lightweight

Mediocre 3D graphics; some questionable industrial design decisions

Overall, as a desktop replacement, this notebook will satisfy everyone except those looking for cutting-edge 3D graphics. The big screen and well-designed speaker system make for an outstanding movie-watching experience, and your movie enjoyment won’t...

Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839

Laptops don't get any bigger than the Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839 ($1,499.99 street), an 18.4-inch media center laptop that has the largest laptop screen available. Home theater enthusiasts will love the screen's 1080p resolution, built-in Blu-ray drive,...

Glorious 18.4-inch screen with 1080p resolution. Well designed aluminum frame. Huge battery and impressive battery life. Top-notched performance scores. Very good graphics chip. Blu-ray drive included. Excellent speaker quality. FireWire port

Touchpad texture needs work. Heavy

Home theater enthusiasts will love the Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839 laptop's big 1080p-resolution screen, built-in Blu-ray drive, and crisp-sounding speaker system, and the parts powering the system are impressive.

When you first lay eyes on the Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839, words like "mammoth" and "ginormous" spring to mind. This is one big laptop. But with great size comes great power, and the Aspire corks its bat with everything from a second-generation (Sandy...

Beautiful design ; Top-notch features ; Above-average performance ; Big audio ; Breathtaking display ; Surprisingly lightweight

Noisy Blu-ray drive and fan ; Only one headphone jack

Acer's beautiful behemoth blends style and power like few other desktop replacements. It's just as adept at entertainment as it is at everyday computing, making it a welcome addition to any home.

Beautiful graphic, nice keyboard and very powerful

I would recommend this machine to anyone although I'm not a gamer I've read that there are better options for the state of the art games because the GP only uses DDR3 and not DDR5 memory. Cheaper then 18.4 laptop competition from Asus and Toshiba....

The 8 GB of ram expandable to 16GB. Improved wireless over the 8943G. Great for entertainment system. I added SSD drive and it boots and shuts down at an incredible speed

Has secondary drive bay but need to purchase a cable to use a second drive. I install

bad battery and slow HD

Happy to be one of the first to play with it. But very disappointed. The slow HD defeats all the other expensive stuff. The short lived battery is the true killer for an otherwise good desktop replacement. What a pitty!

Big and bright screen. Nice keyboard

Really short lived battery. Last less than two hours after a full charge and normal usage (web browser, HD movie and microsoft office). It also bears the restarting problem as other Acer's lappies, often dead after goes to standby mode. More likely a...
