Review Acer Aspire One 521 Netbook

Netbook killer. The battery life of a netbook with the performance of a subnotebook. Could the dream be realised for just €329? This 10.1-inch, AMD-based machine begins the assault on Intel's Pine Trail netbooks. Its weapons: Athlon II Neo, DDR3 RAM,...

Better performance than Intel Atom, Good battery life, Good screen contrast, HDMI output, Robust case, Low energy consumption, Quiet system, AMD is back in the game. With improved performance and good battery life, the AMD platform has overtaken the...

Screen picks up reflections, Resolution only 1,024 x 600, Can get too warm with heavy use, Small palm rest, Noisy touchpad keys

Acer Aspire One AO521-3782

The Acer Aspire One AO521-3782 is a 10-inch netbook that runs on AMD parts, and is noticeably faster than its Intel counterparts, but there are drawbacks.

Full-size keyboard. Better mouse button location. HDMI port. Good speed for a netbook. Excellent high definition playback.

Runs warm. Battery life not as impressive as that of Intel-based netbooks. Weak speakers.

Acer Aspire One 521 and 721 review

On the surface Acer's 10.1-inch Aspire One 521 and 11.6-inch Aspire One 721 appear to be fairly run-of-the-mill netbooks -- or ultraportables for those that ar...

Acer Aspire One 521 review

The Acer Aspire One 521 looks like a typical netbook. It has a 10 inch display, a slightly less than full sized keyboard, and it weighs just 2.8 pounds. But while virtually every netbook released over the past two years has shipped with a low power...

Overall Good Value

Great netbook! I would make sure you order the 2GB memory upgrade with this. The 1GB memory combined with a single core and 5400 RPM HD struggles. As soon as I bumped it up to 2GB DDR3 it was very zippy. World of warcraft plays great. HD Video is cool...

Fast processor, good contrast on the screen, lightweight, easily upgradeable RAM, small power supply, HDMI with the HD Chipset, multi gesture touch pad, DDR3 RAM

1GB RAM, 5400 RPM HD

Fun little computer.

I was going to take an egg off for the clunky power cable and the odd keyboard, but you cant beat the value on this netbook. I wont be replacing this netbook for a loooonnnng time. You can't beat the performance level of this thing for the price tag.

AMD Processor makes the Intel Atom offerings look downright sluggish ; Suprisingly powerful ATI graphics. (As long as you know what to expect out of a netbook.) ; I love the fact that this thing has an HDMI port at this price range ; Pretty cool...

Only 1 GB of ram. Easily upgradeable but I would have gladly have paid a little more for a 2 gb option. I'm lazy ; Keyboard is a little too slick and a little unfriendly, even by netbook standards ; Windows 7 Starter. It didn't lose an egg for this,...

Outstanding little machine for a little coin

Great choice if you want snappier performance than is offered by the usual Atom-powered netbook. Great if you like to do you own upgrades, a joy to work on compared to the Asus netbooks. Not a good choice if you need all-day battery life (5+ hours) AMD...

Well-built for an inexpensive netbook, very easy to open for RAM and HD upgrades. Speedy AMD processor (3.4 Win experience index, average Atom gets a 2.3) much snappier than Atom netbooks. Good keyboard without much give, responsive trackpad. Overall a...

Glossy screen bezel gathers fingerprints, glossy screen has some glare. Runs a little warmer than Atom netbooks, but nothing excessive, still comfortable to use. Mouse buttons are a little stiff. Battery life is decent at 4-5 hours in real world use,...

Awesome, exactly what I wanted

I actually bought this on sale at a local shop for $285, but I would've paid $350 or more for it. It's just so far above and beyond any other 10.1" netbook that it should be in a different class entirely. It's a great netbook, but if you want it to be...

Way faster than Atom netbooks of any kind, including the new dual-core N550 models. Technically they score better in benchmarks, but in actual usage this is much faster because of the Atom's in-order processing ; The keyboard is great once you get used...

1GB ram isn't really useful these days, but it's really easy to upgrade ; The HDD is slooooow. Also easy to upgrade ; Touchpad buttons are REALLY clicky ; Charger is shorter than I'd like ; These are all really nitpicky things that aren't a big deal in...

Almost perfect sub $350 netbook

Windows 7 Starter wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Ubuntu makes up for most of what's missing. General web browsing gets me about 6 hours while playing games like Portal brings the battery to about 3 to 4 hours just in case anyone wanted to know.

Graphics. The ATI card is HUGE plus over most netbooks ; So far it's been able to run Fallout 3, Starcraft 2, and most of Valve's Source based games (with the exception of Team Fortress 2) at a pretty decent frame rate (18 to 25+ fps at varying degrees...

It appears my machine shipped with a UK keyboard instead of the US layout as pictured ; The trackpad has support for multi-touch gestures, but tapping with multiple fingers seems to be absent (no two finger middle click) ; Sleep on Ubuntu does not...

Great Netbook

It is east to install new memory ; Runs 7 starter without a hitch ; Quick and responsive ; I bought this as a backup and lightweight alternative to my full sized laptop (lenovo t-61). It is quickly becoming my main laptop, it is quick, responsive, and...

Comes with some bloatware ; 1 gig of memory makes the system a little bogged down ; McAfee
