Acer Aspire One D257 review- a solid 10 inch netbook right now

Acer mini laptops have progressed a lot during these last years, the Taiwanese company becoming one of the most important computer manufacturers in the world. Aside from the regular notebooks, which are current...

While it can't be called a perfect device, having some faults and weak points, the number of strong points overwhelms these and make the AOD257 a possible best-seller in our opinion. The netbook packs a strong hardware configuration for a device of its...

not bad, horrid hdd

The price and win7 over win8 make it worth the price. especially if you replace the HDD(with almost any other brand) and add an extra gig of ram. I'd actually give it ~3.5 eggs (-1 for HDD, -0.5 for fluff-ware)

Small ; Cheap ; Windows 7 (win 7 starter, but can be fixed. at least its not win 8..) ; Upgradable

The 250 HDD provided was made by Hitachi, which means it's almost useless.. (so ~ a year of life in it, if lucky) but i had a SSD laying around so i just mirrored it ; Insane amounts a preinstalled fluff-ware (~2 hours of uninstall. seriously, it's...

Nice little Netbook

I was looking for a netbook with 2-4gb of ram and 250GB was enough hard drive space along with atleast Windows 7 Home Premuim but couldn't justify the $200 increase in price to get those features when I can spend $100 and get them seperatly. I...

Small size, LED LCD is very crisp and nice, keyboard is not cumbersome, easy access to RAM and HDD and for the hardware the netbook screams. Ram, harddrive and OS is upgradeable. Great for throwing in my saddlebags on the motorcycle and going

1GB ram, but I purchased a 2GB stick which is the most the OS will support. Only a 3 cell battery for about 2.5 hours of life. OS is only starter and not home premium

Acer Costomer Service

The only reason I am submitting this review is Acer's response to a faulty hard drive that developed almost immediately on an Aspire AOD257. I had to hunt a bit for the telephone customer service number, but once I reached them (a person), she was very...

In my experience (1 laptop 3 years, 1 netbook 2 months) Acer is a fairly good quality and inexpensive computer brand. It is what it is, and if you feel more comfortable paying more for a more illustrious brand, be my guest

Bloatware. I always install a fresh operating system ; Newegg limits text length in these screens. I wanted to say more about Acer in "Other Thoughts

Works good once the memory is upgraded

This is a descent netbook when you upgrade the memory to 2gb. Before that it was hobbled by a lot of lag and really could not multi task at all. Loading web pages took forever and MS office wouldnt even run. With 2 gb of memory in it now, it runs...

Upgrading the memory is not for the inexperienced. You literally have to remove the motherboard to expose the memory slot

Works as expected

I just gotta throw it up to Newegg here, I ordered Wed. evening and it came Fri. after noon. Extremely fast delivery, and everything was nicely packed in plenty of peanuts, no damage to outer box or anything. Thank you again Newegg!

This is the first netbook that I have bought for myself. I find it a nice and fast and doing what I expected it to do. It was very easy to install Windows 7 Ultimate from an external usb drive and get everything up and running. I enjoy the texture on...

I give this 4 stars only because it could definitely do with 2GB of ram, doing normal task takes up about 60% or more of your 1GB stick. I have already ordered a 2GB stick that I will replace with the stock 1GB. It was only $12 so its definitely worth...

Awesome little netbook

It would be perfect if the screen were one inch larger and it could handle 4Gb of RAM but it can't, (I did try). Still I love it!

Excellent construction quality, the screen is bright and sharp, the Atom N570 is snappy ; It only comes with 1Gb of RAM but I upgraded to 2Gb myself and it really made it much faster so you really need to do that if you get one ; Other than that I have...

Really needs 2Gb of RAM to run windows ; Atom CPU still not as fast as I'd like, but that's not Acers fault

Max (RAM) Confusion

My ideal config is hardware upgrades to the RAM, Hard Drive and Battery (4GB of RAM and a 7200RPM Drive, at least 500GB as well as the 6-cell battery) and installing Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Intel's spec claim it's Atom N570 is dual core, 64-bit and...

Let me start by saying that I love this netbook BUT I'd do with more RAM for sure. The factory says the max is 2GB but I don't buy it... I think this statement has to do with Win 7 Starter than with the hardware itself. I'm gonna try a 4GB stck of DDR3...

The Wi-Fi isn't overwhelming and it'll freeze when streaming video sometimes. Like I said I think this is due to it having only 1GB of RAM

After 1 month all is well - but

We have a 6 month old 11.6 inch Acer Timeline with the old Intel I3 at work. An inch or so larger L x W + another 1/2 lb or so - but much more satisfying (@ almost 2X the price). Maybe longer battery life. The I3/I5 (new versions) are much better...

Same as before. Build quality excellent. Size is near perfect ; Windows 7 Starter is OK for a netbook - limited menuing makes configuration a bit more dificult, but now looks and runs just like 7 Home on my other Acer

Buttons on edge of chassis creates problems when working in lap or laying down. NOT a good location where slight stray thumb touches trigger mouse clicks ; 2 finger pad is not useful. Insufficient screen to pinch text to see more of page. Now...

Fairly solid netbook

You can sometimes get audible volume by using Windows' loudness equalization feature. -Out of the two stick so RAM I bought for this thing, the Crucial 2GB PC10600 SODIMM (CT25664BC1339) worked. -You may see people talking about removing the rubber...

Value. High battery life, decent usability for an extremely low price ; 4 hours of battery life watching near 720p video, 8 hours browsing ; One of the few white netbooks available ; Plays most videos mostly without hitching, however there is...

Have to upgrade the RAM to 2GB if you want videos (youtube, netflix) to play mostly smoothly ; Upgrading the RAM is difficult and not recommended for everyone ; Did not recognize the first 4GB DDR3 SODIMM I threw in there (would not POST), although...
