Review Acer Aspire V5-131-10172G50akk Notebook

Long battery life for little money. With the Aspire V5-131, Acer

matte screen; low system noise; low power consumption; very good battery life; user can/must select the OS

spongy keyboard; poor viewing angles; bluish display

Acer managed to make energy consumption and temperature increase lower than the Aspire One 756 siblings.

Asus Transformer Pad TF300TG

Good build ; Wide viewing angles ; Excellent battery life ; Minimalistic and easy UI ; Responsive touch interface ; Good speakers

Expensive ; Better value for money options out there ; Display resolution could have been better ; Keyboard dock may feel cramped for some

lightweight 7 durable (relatively) netbook

For the price I paid for it, this has been a fantastic investment.

Better than my Dull [tm] laptop. Reinstalled an OEM Win7 to eliminate the bloatware and this has been a great portable device for college, light gaming (I can run Civ5 on low settings), VOIP, and the intrawebz. It has plenty of USB ports. Personally, I...

5400rpm/90Hz HDD is rather slow

Pretty good netbook

I'd recommend getting a lightweight DE for this, it can handle the heavyweights like Gnome and KDE but it really shines when you put something less demanding on it.

has enough power for everyday browsing and programming ; remarkably durable, has taken more abuse than I would expect it to survive ; rarely gets hot ; no driver problems ; definitely a good choice if you want something small and cheap for carrying around

battery life is so-so(could be better, but about what I would expect) ; pre-installed linux is totally useless ; keyboard doesn't have a caps lock light ; suspend/resume sometimes doesn't work ; definitely NOT a good choice for anything more demanding...

Does what I bought it for

This is a very portable laptop that I use every day in my position as a DBA. The laptop will run every Linux distribution that I have installed on it - currently its running an Arch variant. The panel, the wireless chipset, the keboard, and the touch...

There's no disk-activity light and there's no indication of when the Caps Lock is on. Very minor quibbles, but theye did require some adjustments

Nice Little Computer

I bought two laptops this last month. One with windows 8.1 and only SSDs and this one with a hard drive and Windows 7. Out of the two the other one is driving me nuts because of windows 8.1. I have nothing against the speed, size and other attributes of...

Nice Little computer. It has Windows 7 (Not 8.1)! It ran my Christmas show this season when my bigger laptop fried. No issues, it worked every time exactly the way I needed it to

Has a hard drive. Wished it had only an SSD, but for the price, what do I expect

Acer V5-131-2497 (NX.M8AAA.004)

This computer is actually quite good for web surfing, office software, music, and movies. Recommend it

the only drawback is low sound volume

Decent battery life, bad touchpad.

If it's steeply on sale it might be worth it, get yourself a mouse to go with it.

Small and portable. Boots quickly, battery lasts a long time

Touchpad is just awful. Make sure you have a portable mouse with you, because some days I can't use the touchpad at all, even after rebooting. Some days it works ok, but is still pretty jittery and innacurate. Fn-F7 turns off the touchpad

Acer v5 is nice little laptop

New Egg should replace the battery and ship a new OEM flat battery to meet the specs as advertised. Otherwsie I like the fact it came with windows 7 because windows 8.1 is not what I would ever want in an operating system and cumbersome for power pros...

Small, Light, quiet

Battery shipped is not the one in pictures and makes this laptop sit up 1 3/4" high (thick) so its much thicker than advertised. The pictures show a thin flat battery, thats not what was shipped with the unit. I called and they said to call...

Once you get an OS installed, it works perfectly. It's quiet and doesn't get too hot, and it runs snappily if you install a smallish distro as I did. There were no driver problems at all

None, really. It took a while to ship. The Linpus installed, as said before, was thoroughly useless. Get a different distro and install it with UNetbootin on a USB drive
