Acer Chromebook 13 review: long battery life, sharp screen, good price

After years of getting little respect, Chromebooks are finally on the rise (at least in schools), which means every major PC maker is trying to get in on

One of the few Chromebooks with a 1080p screen ; Long battery life ; Runs quietly, stays cool ; Comfortable keyboard and trackpad ; Competitive price

Performance not as strong as promised ; Limited viewing angles ; Build quality feels cheap next to some rival devices ; Heavy compared to some competing models

As the first Chrome OS device with an NVIDIA Tegra chip, the Acer Chromebook 13 isn't as powerful as promised. Still, it manages to redeem itself with long battery life, a sharp screen, a comfortable keyboard and, most importantly, a fair price.

The Acer Chromebook 13 is on the cutting edge, with an Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, advanced gaming support, and a 13-inch full HD display. But even with all these advancements, it doesn't seem much better than most of the competition.

Large 13-inch display with 1,920-by-1,080 resolution. New Nvidia Tegra K1 promises WebGL and Unity 5 3D capability. Good-looking design.

White plastic chassis shows every scuff and smudge. Laggy media streaming. Few Chrome games take advantage of new capabilities.

Conclusion The Acer Chromebook 13 (CB5-311-T9B0) is definitely notable among its peers, if only for its new processor and larger full HD display, but it doesn't offer a significantly improved experience, and the experience is everything when dealing...

Chromebooks are largely cut from the same cloth. Small, lower-resolution screens, minimal onboard storage, low-end Intel CPUs, and modest plastic bodies. A few exceptions pop up now and then, such as Lenovo's new touchscreen hybrid-style Yoga 11e , but...

The Acer Chromebook has a slim design, a high-res 13-inch screen, and a fast Nvidia K1 processor for a graphics and battery boost over other Chromebooks.

Like other Chromebooks, offline functionality is extremely limited. The large screen lacks touch input, and the ARM processor presents some compatibility issues, even with online Chrome apps.

One of the nicer-looking and better-performing Chrome OS systems, the 13-inch Acer Chromebook adds some zip by ditching Intel for an Nvidia processor, but also hits a few issues with popular Chrome apps.
