Acer Predator Triton 700 review: A stunning gaming laptop with a terrible touchpad

The Acer Predator Triton 700 is one of the most impressive laptops ever, which makes its flaws even more disappointing.

Very thin and light for a gaming laptop ; Sleek, gorgeous design ; Superb gaming performance

Dismal battery life ; Terrible, awkwardly placed touchpad ; GTX 1080 Max-Q performs more like a GTX 1070

But Acer dropped the ball with the Predator Triton 700’s touchpad. It’s .

Acer Predator Triton 700

Thanks to Nvidia's new Max-Q graphics technology, the Acer Predator Triton 700 offers a good mix of graphics performance and weight savings, but its competitors do better.

Thin and light. Overclockable GPU.

Awkward touchpad placement. Mechanical keyboard is fine for gaming, but uncomfortable for long typing sessions. Underside becomes very hot during game play. Short battery life.

Bottom Line: Thanks to Nvidia's new Max-Q graphics technology, the Acer Predator Triton 700 offers a good mix of graphics performance and weight savings, but its competitors do better.

Acer Predator Triton 700 review

Acer manages a couple of feats of real engineering genius in the new Predator Triton 700 . This is a slim gaming laptop, and while similarly sized models usually top out at a mainstream Nvidia GeForce 1060 graphics card, the Triton has a...

The Triton 700 fits a powerful Nvidia 1080 GPU into a slim frame. The mechanical keyboard is great, without being too bulky. More ports than you'd expect from a slim laptop.

The touchpad is poorly placed and gets too hot while gaming. No high-res or touchscreen options.

The Acer Triton 700 is an impressive slim gaming laptop, but its nontraditional touchpad makes it a tough sell for anything other than games.

Acer Predator Triton 700

I've got to hand it to Acer for its willingness to push the envelope. The Predator Triton 700 (starting at $1,999; reviewed at $2,999) breaks with tried-and-true gaming laptop design conventions to create something that is truly exciting. And this slim...

Acer Predator Triton 700 (i7-7700HQ, GTX 1080 Max-Q, Full-HD) Laptop Review

Courageously new. Acer´s new ultra-slim 15-inch Predator Triton 700 gaming notebook is nothing short of innovative. Alongside its mechanical keyboard, the unusual position and design of the touchpad makes for some interesting new looks. Can the Triton...

sturdy, slim and high quality case ; handy software (OC, fan controls) ; high-contrast IPS screen with 120 Hz ; easy maintenance access ; mechanical keyboard ; superb performance ; well-made design ; Thunderbolt 3 ; 2x PCIe-SSDs ; G-Sync

annoying start-up sound (can be muted in BIOS) ; some sharpedged case elements ; high temperatures during 3D workloads ; flawed touchpad solution ; very short battery runtime ; moderate display reaction times ; no card reader ; shallow sound ; very...

The Acer Predator Triton 700 clashes brutally with the ROG Zephyrus and it is hard to name a winner. The Triton 700 takes the lead in terms of case, mechanical keyboard, port selection and maintenance, while the Zephyrus eagerly collects points with...

Acer Predator Triton 700 Review and Ratings

Acer's slim GTX 1080-packing gamer is a strong performer, with mechanical RGB keys and unique looks. Just note the unorthodox touch pad placement may have you reaching for a mouse. And at $2,999 it's certainly not cheap, even compared to other svelte...

Excellent RGB mechanical keyboard ; Fast 120Hz G-Sync display ; Relatively quiet cooling fans ; Rock-solid chassis ; Good speakers

Pricey next to competition ; Awkward touch pad location ; Exterior surfaces get very hot while gaming ; Short battery life

The Acer Predator Triton 700 fuses cutting-edge notebook design with the latest in gaming technology. The GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q graphics chip in our review unit was an impressive performer, approaching or exceeding triple-digit average framerates in...

Acer Predator Triton 700

Acer likes to produce headline-grabbing products. It launched the Predator 21 X curved gaming laptop last September at IFA in Berlin and was met with a mixture of amusement and astonishment, which was a sign of things to come.

Acer Predator Triton 700 review

This super-slim gaming laptop has a heart of glass

Great gaming performance ; Mechanical keyboard ; Solid screen

“just” 1080p ; Pretty useless trackpad ; Not cheap, is it?

A great high-performance, low-bulk gaming laptop. As long as you remember to bring a mouse

Acer Predator Triton 700 review

An attractive desktop replacement that runs hot

Powerful GTX 1080 graphics ; 32GB of RAM ; Impressively thin ; Excellent keyboard

Extremely hot under load ; Excessive fan noise ; Just 1080p screen for price ; Poor audio performance

Ridiculously powerful and impressively thin, the Predator Triton 700 has no problems taking what you throw at it, but it gets almost too hot to touch under load and lacks features that key competitors offer for less.
