Acer Aspire Switch 12 Alpha SA5-271-56HM Convertible Review

Absolute silence. A liquid cooling system in a convertible does not work? Of course it does! For the first time ever, Acer has installed a silent cooling technology in a high-performance convertible based on Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors. This...

performance readiness, fanless cooling, good input devices, solid build

abysmal speakers, battery life

A silent story that leaves a loud echo: Acer's Switch Alpha 12 not only presents a challenge with its low entry price of 800 Euros (~$883) including keyboard dock but also with its well-conceived overall bundle with innovative cooling technology. The...

Acer Switch Alpha 12

The Acer Switch Alpha 12 is a good value, offering top speed in its price range, a crisp display, and useful extras. There are some minor design caveats, but this Windows tablet can help you be productive without breaking the bank.

Fast performance. Sharp, bright display. Keyboard is included.

Kickstand feels flimsy. Battery life on the shorter side compared with competition.

Conclusion The Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 represents a strong value, standing as one of the fastest midrange tablets we've tested, but coming in at a reasonable price. The screen is sharp with a high resolution, and the USB-C port is a welcome...

Acer Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-596M

The configuration I tested packs way-above-average specs for its $750 (AU$1,730) price; the equivalent Surpace Pro 4 setup costs almost $500 more (though it also has a much better display). Our particular test configuration doesn't seem to be offered...

For its price class, the Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 delivers excellent performance in a well-thought-out design, and it includes a great keyboard.

While the display is good, it's not as contrasty or vivid as the OLED models on other 2-in-1s. And it's got a middling pen system.

The Acer Switch Alpha offers a surprisingly great design and feature set in a 2-in-1 for the money without sacrificing power.

Acer's Switch Alpha 12 performs admirably beside more expensive Windows 10 tablets.

Acer's Surface Pro clone is cheaper and almost as good

At first glance, Acer's Aspire Switch Alpha 12 looks very much like a me-too device. It's a Microsoft Surface clone running Windows 10, albeit with a slightly different kickstand and a clever way...

Very Inexpensive ; Fanless ; Good screen

Terrible battery life ; Can get hot

Acer Switch Alpha 12 Review

Does your laptop get louder than a jet engine? With the $650 Switch Alpha 12 ($800 as tested), Acer is selling you on complete silence; it's the first liquid-cooled detachable on the market. It also happens to deliver strong performance and features a...

Acer Switch Alpha 12

The Acer Switch Alpha 12 is the latest MS Surface Pro 4 competitor, and one of the first to ship with Intel Skylake Core i5 and i7 CPUs rather than Core M. Despite the relatively low price-- our Core i5 with 8 gigs RAM, 256 gig SS with keyboard and pen...

Low price, Intel Core i5 and i7 performance, nice design and materials. Keyboard (and sometimes pen) included

Battery life isn't great

We're really impressed at the power and value Acer offers with the Switch Alpha 12. Yes, like other competitors, it's a Surface Pro 4 clone, but that's not a bad thing: Microsoft created the Surface line to inspire and spur manufacturers to create...

Acer Switch Alpha 12 review: Not the affordable Surface Pro 4 alternative you’re looking for

When Microsoft first announced its Surface lineup of 2-in-1 detachables back in 2012, most people were not sure how to greet the company's new device.

Excellent screen ; Superlative performance ; Great operating system in Windows 10

Poor battery life ; Average keyboard and trackpad at best ; Heavy

On its own, the Switch Alpha 12 is, save for its less than stellar keyboard and poor battery life, a good device.

Acer Switch Alpha 12 Review and Ratings

Fanless and silent, the Switch Alpha 12 is a huge value among Surface-style Win 10 2-in-1 detachables: Core i5 power, a stylus, and a keyboard in one $799 test unit.

Outstanding value ; Outperforms competing Core M-based tablets ; Passively cooled ; Excellent QHD display ; Good port selection

Keyboard doesn't sit totally flat ; Pen technology lags behind competition's ; Good battery life, but still falls short of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4

The Windows 10 2-in-1 marketplace is crowded, but Acer has managed to produce a star that shines brighter than the rest.

Acer Switch Alpha 12 2-in-1 Windows tablet review

The is a Windows tablet with a high-resolution display, support for up to an Intel Core i7 Skylake processor, and a fanless design. But Acer doesn't position the Switch Alpha 12 as a tablet. It's listed , and for good reason.

Acer promised us a tablet with laptop-class performance and a fanless design… and the company delivered on that promise.
