Review Acer TravelMate P253-M Notebook

Pussyfoot. Acer's TravelMate P253-M is supposed to be a "laptop for everyone". Our review reveals whether the combination of a matte, 15.6-inch screen, Core i3 processor and Windows 8 is enough to fulfill this promise.

Matte screen, Runs very quietly, 24 month warranty, Good application performance, The low operating noise and the matte screen

No USB 3.0, Battery life could be better, USB 3.0 ports

Review Acer Travelmate 8472TG Notebook

Desktop to go. Das 14,1" This business notebook comes with a matt

Solid case with a robust surface; Matte display with good brightness; Hybrid technology gives the user the choice between battery life and performance; Long runtimes with Intel HD; Good system performance; Relatively light weight, including DVD burner;...

Awkward interface arrangement; No eSata or USB 3.0; No digital monitor output; Low contrast screen with pale colors; No higher resolutions as 1366 x 768 are selectable with the GT330M; Constantly running fan, loud when overloaded; Slow hard drive

Hybrid technology aside, there are currently no notebooks other than the Acer offering a combination of matte 14.1" display and a relatively high-performing graphic card. With lower-performing graphics, one could perhaps consider the Toshiba Tecra M10,...

Acer TravelMate

Really appreciate the Windows 7 OS. I don't understand putting WIndows 8 on a non-touch screen laptop. Personally, I don't understand Windows 8 for anything but a tablet.

Nice laptop. Purchased this for my daughter to finish college. She really prefers the smaller size and did not want the 15.6 screen. Wireless works well as she is rarely connected by wire and works from her bedroom. No complaints from her yet

So far, so good

I've only had it about a week so far, but I've been impressed. For the price, I would expect everything to be cheap. The components certainly aren't high-end, but most seem decent. The only parts that seem cheap are the track pad and maybe the hard...

Small size ; Decent screen ; Great battery life ; Capable processor ; Easy to upgrade

At this price, hard to find any. See other thoughts, below

Fantastic starting point

Purchased this for my little sister who's b-day is coming up to replace her 4 yr old gateway netbook. Just got done "downgrading" my copy of windows 8 to windows 7, UEFI bios makes it a pain to do, but I knew it would be going into this. The windows 7...

Price to performance (scores 1600+ in passmark cpumark) ; Gigabit Ethernet ; Simple 1 screw bottom panel to add memory, replace drive ; 6-cell 5000mah battery ; Intel 6235 a/b/g/n dual channel wifi card ; Nice matte screen ; Runs very cool ; Overall...

6-cell battery protrudes out the bottom of the laptop ; windows 8 ; No USB 3.0 ; UEFI bios ; No msata slot (I see the traces for it though) ; shiny screen bezel (why couldn't they make that matte too?) ; smallish chiclet keyboard keys ; Trying to...
