Alienware m18 Review: A Big and Bold Gaming Beast

It's not the only 18-inch gaming laptop of 2023, but so far it's the most powerful.

Massive screen for gaming ; Amazing performance from the Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU ; Tactile CherryMX keyboard ; Lots of ports and connections ; Less expensive than the other 18-inch gaming laptop we've reviewed

Blander color options than the previous generation ; Better components drive up the price ; Fans can get loud while gaming

Alienware M18x

The Alienware M18x looks intimidating and has the performance chops that gamers crave, but this 18-inch laptop doesn't come cheap.

Blazing performance. Solid build quality. Sleek design. Cool lighting effects.

Expensive. Short battery life.

Alienware M18x R2 Notebook Review: NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 680M in SLI

Around the launch of the Alienware M17x R3, Alienware essentially bifurcated its high end notebook offerings into single-GPU (the M17x R3) and dual-GPU (the M18x). The M17x R3 was slimmed down from its beefy predecessor and the M17x actually remains...

Review Alienware M18x R2 Notebook

CrossFire deluxe. Hardcore gamers who don't care to make friends

Diverse Lighting options; Display with strong contrast; Exceptional Performance; Rich Accessories; A multitude of connectors; Aluminum surfaces; Great input devices; Relatively good sound; Nice workmanship; Simple to service or upgrade; Overclocked CPU

Extremely high weight; Meager battery runtime; Display is like a mirror; Upgrade pricing is terrible

Strictly taken, among 18" units, there are no alternatives. At best, there is the Clevo bare bone model P180HM.

Review Alienware M18x (GTX 580M SLI, 2920XM) Notebook

Powerhouse. In our review update, we look at the fastest notebook

Range of ports; Extensive illumination; High-quality materials; Very good performance

Loud under stress; Extremely heavy; Large mains adaptor; Keyboard ghosting; Graphics cards throttle on battery power

In terms of performance, really only the 17" Clevo X7200 Barebone (e.g. Eurocom Panther 3.0). There are only a few 18" notebooks, e.g. the much slower Acer Aspire Ethos 8950G.

Alienware m18 review: The biggest, baddest 18-inch gaming laptop

This beastly gaming laptop is too hot, heavy and loud to be of much use on your lap, but on a desk it's a remarkable gaming machine that earns the term desktop replacement.

Neither the Blade 18 nor the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 have keyboards that feel as nice to use as the Alienware m18 and its low-profile CherryMX mechanical keys, either. Sure, both are lighter than the m18 and have brighter displays, but those strengths...

Alienware M18x Gaming Notebook: Tale of Two GPUs

To that end, in our efforts to evaluate Alienware's new gaming Goliath, the company decided to send us two machines. We hemmed and hawed; with all that gaming prowess at our fingertips, how would we get any real work done? Such is the perilous line...

Gorgeous good looks ; Exceptional build quality ; Top-shelf components ; Great lighting and AlienFX ; Beautiful 18-inch LCD ; Killer performance

Pricey ; Big and power hungry ; Small range of GPU configurations

The Alienware M18x performed admirably throughout every benchmark test, as we expected it to, frankly. The system itself showed a nice balance of both CPU horsepower and raw gaming performance proportional to the high-end graphics setups we tested in...
