Review Apple MacBook Pro 13 Retina 2.5 GHz Late 2012

Hot stuff. The Apple MacBook Pro 13 is now available with a high-resolution IPS display, a slimmer chassis, and new ports. The newcomer demands a price premium of 500 Euros (~$650) above the cost of the time-tested standard model. Do the changes really...

Slimmer chassis with lower weight, Build quality, fit and feel, overall sturdyness, HDMI and USB 3.0 are on board, Very good input devices, keyboard backlight, High resolution IPS display with 227 DPI, Convincing performance, Speakers sound very good,...

Port selection somewhat limited, No dongles included, System is not expandable, Warranty is only 12 months, Not many BTO options, Display brightness fluctuates; bleeding is an issue, A third USB port, a way to quickly clean the system fans, additional...

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display (13-inch)

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display outclasses Ultrabooks with a much sharper screen, faster performance and longer battery life.

Superb Retina display; Excellent overall performance; High-quality speakers; Comfortable keyboard and touchpad; Long battery life

Pricier than most ultraportables; Integrated graphics

Click to EnlargeThe 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a lot like the iPhone 5. Apple took a winning formula and perfected it by making it thinner, lighter and faster. But in this case the display isn't bigger. It's a quantum leap better than...

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display ( 13.3-inch)

By adding a high-res Retina Display to a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has taken the odd man out of its MacBook line -- the previous 13-inch Pro -- and turned it into a sleek, modern laptop sitting at the midway point between slim ultrabook and...

The new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display adds a screen that's nearly as high-res as the 15-inch version, making for incredibly crisp text and images. The slimmer body feels much more modern, and the excellent keyboard and trackpad remain.

Considering that this looks and feels a lot like the 13-inch MacBook Air, you may be in for a bit of sticker shock, especially as the base model only includes 128GB of SSD storage.

While the Retina MacBook Pro is easily the most desirable 13-inch Mac laptop to date, the high price and lack of discrete graphics make it a tough call versus either the more powerful 15-inch Retina Pro or the more affordable 13-inch Air.

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display Review (2012)

The MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a bit of the past and a bit of the future, wrapped up into one tasty, toasty present. Brilliant screen meets refined design.

Screen, screen, screen ; Thin ; Strong performance ; Excellent speakers

Very expensive for performance level ; Increased costs for repair and battery replacement ; Few applications ready for Retina at this time ; Performance issues with some browsing

I understand that this review may seem overly effusive – but it’s hard to deny that the MacBook Pro with Retina Display provides a superlative experience for that specific set of users who require what this machine provides.

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display

Editors' note (October 23, 2012): In addition to the 15-inch model reviewed here, Apple now offers an all-new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display as well.

The unprecedented high-resolution screen on the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display makes images -- even simple text -- look beautifully clear. Despite a redesigned, lightweight body, the powerful components, including an Nvidia GPU, compare well to...

With a $2,199 entry-level price tag, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display costs more than the typical American mortgage. The lack of onboard Ethernet jack, FireWire, or an optical drive can be inconvenient at times. Despite being thinner and lighter,...

The newly redesigned MacBook Pro with Retina Display combines an amazing screen with just enough of the MacBook Air design to feel like a new animal, and to take its place as the best of the current MacBook breed.

13" Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display

Phenomenal display, luxury design and materials, very portable

The price! No dedicated graphics option

Undeniably, the 13" MacBook Pro with Retina display is a show-stopper when it comes to display quality, materials, design and fit and finish. The question is, in a worldwide depression, are these enough to sell a laptop that starts at $1,700 $1,500? I...

Apple MacBook Pro (15-Inch Retina Display, 2012 Version) Review and Ratings

Given that you'll want it—and even the most hardened Windows laptop user will want it—the question is, can you justify the $2,199 price of Apple's new MacBook Pro with Retina Display? The answer is easy: What resolution is your camera or camcorder?

Spectacular screen Thin and light for a 15-inch laptop Fast performance from CPU, graphics, and flash storage Good battery life

Expensive No optical drive or Ethernet port Third-party apps will need to be optimized to look their best

An incredible, super-high-resolution screen lifts Apple's 2012 flagship laptop to a pinnacle for video and graphics professionals—who'll be too wide-eyed to blink at its $2,199 price.
