Apple MacBook Pro Summer 2009 ( Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB, 17-inch)

Editors' Note (April 13, 2010): Apple has updated its line of MacBook Pros with new Intel processors and improved Nvidia graphics. See CNET's coverage of the Spring 2010 MacBook Pros for more information.

Adds SD card slot and reacquires FireWire; lower starting price; same solid unibody construction and giant multitouch trackpad.

Nonremovable battery; no matte screen or discrete graphics options.

Previously known as the MacBook, Apple's basic 13-inch aluminum unibody laptop has been promoted to the "Pro" series, all while adding features and cutting the base price.

Apple MacBook Pro Summer 2009 Review (Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 15-inch) - Laptops

This is a very nice system. The overall look is simplistic, yet appealing and the hardware meshes well together to create a system that performs near-flawlessly...even when heavy tasks are being performed on it. Makes a great Windows machine if you...

System is very well designed and comes with everything the average user would need and more. System is very stable and when loaded with Windows, it is easily one of the best Windows machines out there whether using VMware, Parallels, or Bootcamp

Gets very hot on the bottom after extended use and never even come close to the advertised battery life of the system. Might get 3 to 4 hours out of it. Strange random popping sound from speakers and gets annoying over time

Apple MacBook Pro Summer 2009 Review (Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Nvidia GeForce 9400M, 13-inch) - Laptops

I am extremely dissatisfied with this laptop. While the external features were good for the most part, I had tons of issues with the internal components of this computer. When the CPU usage went all the way up, even though I was only on a web browser...

I love how when you buy it, it is ready to go. After I took it out of the box, I turned it on and set up my account, and then I was checking emails and browsing the internet. I can't stand how with other laptops you have to charge it for a certain...

Great glossy screen, and Mac OS X has a great user interface. Apple Mail and Safari are great, as well as iLife and all the other things included with Mac OS X. The computer is well built, and looks pretty nice

Battery life goes way down when the screen is too bright, and that's all

Apple MacBook Pro Summer 2009 Review (Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 15-inch) - Laptops

This is the second Mac I have owned... I bought my first in 2007 when the first new Macbooks came out, the white ones. I fell in love with Apple.

Design--sturdy, sleek, durable, attractive; backlit keyboard; great screen; excellent airport capability; FAST FAST FAST; boots up quickly and is just generally responsible

Price, but you get what you pay for

Apple MacBook Pro Summer 2009 Review (Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 15-inch) - Laptops

My prior computer was a Sony, and this MacBook Pro was a huge upgrade. I am still amazed at how fast it is, how it always wakes from sleep mode without a glitch (not so on Windows), and how easy Apple software is to run. I am still discovering fun...

The fastest laptop I ever owned, glitch-free, intuitive software, and the lit keypad in the evening is awesome. Typing is perfect for me, and the software is intuitive to run. MSOffice runs much better than on Windows. Rock solid construction

Adapters required for projectors at added expense, but readily available
