MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Review (late 2013)

Back in June 2012 we described the original 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display as “the gold standard” for high-end notebooks; now, Apple is back with its refreshed version, swapping in Intel's latest Haswell processors and graphics, but keeping...

What you sacrifice in battery life compared to the Air, you make up for in raw processing grunt and that glorious display. The 15-inch Pro may not quite be as portable as its 13-inch brethren, but it’s still sufficiently slim and light to drop into a...

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display (2013, 15-inch screen)

Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro, recently updated to current-generation Intel CPUs (just in time for the holiday shopping season), retains its position as a favorite premium laptop for power-users. But that long-awaited upgrade, introduced at an Apple...

The second generation of Apple's Retina-screen MacBook Pro adds internal upgrades to its Wi-Fi, Thunderbolt, SSD, graphics card, and CPU. The result is a faster laptop with better battery life and a lower starting price.

The changes are internal-only, and not significant enough to upgrade if you have last year's version. At $1,999 to start, this is still a very expensive laptop. Both the 13-inch MacBook Air and Pro have much better battery life.

The slimmer body and higher-res screen of the original Retina MacBook Pro were a revolutionary leap. This revamp adds modest internal upgrades for modest improvements, but price cuts to both the 13-inch and 15-inch models sweeten the deal.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch Retina (2013)

The new 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display is the ultimate notebook for power users, combining a best-in-class display with blazing performance and long battery life.

Excellent overall performance and graphics power; Blazing fast flash storage; Very long battery life; Fantastic Retina Display; iLife and iWork included for free; Compact and light design for 15-inch notebook

Fan can get noisy; Display suffers from glare outdoors; Bottom towards back runs warm

At $2,599 for our configuration ($1,999 to start), the 15-inch MacBook Pro represents a serious investment, but it also delivers a serious dose of power and endurance in a portable design.

Apple 15in Macbook Pro with Retina Display (Late 2013) review

The most powerful laptop money can buy, but it's very expensive and the battery doesn't last as long as last year's model

The new 15in Macbook Pro remains one of the most powerful laptops money can buy, but the increased price of both this year’s models will put it firmly out of reach for most people. It’s possible to find a good specification if you’re willing to...

Internal upgrades ; Good battery life ; Lower price tag than previous generation

Still expensive ; 13-inch model has better battery life

Apple MacBook Pro (15-inch, Retina, Late 2013) review - The laptop for productivity

When you really need to get productive on your laptop, the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013) is the machine for you. It's not just because the screen gives you so much more working space – there's also the matter of thermal design, since...

Haswell chips and Mavericks increase battery life; faster 11ac Wi-Fi, same great Retina display

Memory still soldered, upgrades overpriced, still no >HD output from HDMI

We can see why Apple decided the time was right to offer a 15-inch MacBook Pro without nVidia or AMD graphics. Intel’s Iris Pro has finally brought the kind of improvement that unlocks decent gameplay and rendering power. Power users will still be...

15-inch Retina MacBook Pro (late 2013) review: Apple's best laptop yet

Apple's 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro is a very desirable piece of kit. Packing an immense amount of power, yet measuring just 1.8 cm thick, it's far more portable than the beefy laptops of old.

For us, the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro is the best portable that Apple makes. It has all the power that 99% of people will ever need, is extremely well put together and has one of the best operating systems out there.

"A wonderful machine."

I stayed away from Macs because of the premium price, until I realized that the (2011) XPS 15z I bought was less than 10% cheaper than a similarly equipped MBP. The MBP didn't have the cheap plastic trim or heat issues that required noisy fans. Most...

Superb design, excellent fit and finish, performance is everything that's been predicted, won't fry your lap.

You pay for what you get. Bootcamp has been particularly fiddly. The 256GB of the base model is tight if you want to dual-boot.
