Pixel Perfect

With the latest Retina display MacBook Pro, Apple makes a number of thoughtful refinements to what was already a stellar notebook. The result is one of the best laptops on the market right now.

Extremely sharp 2560×1600 resolution display (2880×1800, for the 15-inch model) is pure eye candy. Excellent springy keyboard and trackpad. Super snappy, powerful processor, with integrated graphics. Nearly all-day battery performance

Price — upgrades, add-ons, and accessories can still up the base cost by nearly $1,000. Sealed unibody design is virtually impossible to upgrade yourself once you’ve purchased the device

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display Review (2012)

The MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a bit of the past and a bit of the future, wrapped up into one tasty, toasty present. Brilliant screen meets refined design.

Screen, screen, screen ; Thin ; Strong performance ; Excellent speakers

Very expensive for performance level ; Increased costs for repair and battery replacement ; Few applications ready for Retina at this time ; Performance issues with some browsing

I understand that this review may seem overly effusive – but it’s hard to deny that the MacBook Pro with Retina Display provides a superlative experience for that specific set of users who require what this machine provides.

The unprecedented high-resolution screen on the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display makes images -- even simple text -- look beautifully clear. Despite a redesigned, lightweight body, the powerful components, including an Nvidia GPU, compare well to...

With a $2,199 entry-level price tag, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display costs more than the typical American mortgage. The lack of onboard Ethernet jack, FireWire, or an optical drive can be inconvenient at times. Despite being thinner and lighter,...

The newly redesigned MacBook Pro with Retina Display combines an amazing screen with just enough of the MacBook Air design to feel like a new animal, and to take its place as the best of the current MacBook breed.

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display review

Apple's MacBook Pro with Retina display reinvents the high-end notebook, but can it justify the asking price and lack of upgrades?

Breathtakingly good screen ; Impressive new processors ; Updated discrete graphics ; Stellar performance ; USB 3.0

Prohibitively expensive ; Few customisation options ; Upgrades almost impossible ; No optical drive ; No Ethernet or FireWire 800

At first glance, the new Pro covers a lot of our wish-list bullet points for a dream Air-Pro hybrid, although you'll have to pay a pretty penny to get one.

Apple has excited its fans with the latest addition to its MacBook range - a Retina display.

Retina display, thin and sleek design, great battery life, speedy performance

Waiting for Mountain Lion, expensive

The Retina MacBook Pro is a fantastic laptop for anyone who works with video or photos, or just wants a brilliant display to view multimedia content on, though of course it comes with the obligatory high price tag.
