Apple MacBook Pro 2008 Edition (Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD)

Editors' note: As of June 2009, the product reviewed here has been replaced by these updated models .

Updated CPUs, improved battery life, adds touch pad gestures from the MacBook Air.

Small performance premium over the cheaper 13-inch MacBook; only 90 days of toll-free technical support; still no SD card reader.

A solid, if predictable, upgrade to the MacBook Pro line, but noteworthy for stealing the MacBook Air's best feature--expanded gesture controls for the touch pad.

"Top of the Line - No Equal"

"Excellent Premium Machine"

I am a switcher who bought the MacBook Pro 2008 edition to replace my aging Dell XPS M1210 which was going to be handed down. So far, my experience is as follows:

Slim and stylish form factor, compact and lightweight for desktop replacement, excellent overall performance, assortment of minor enhancements

USB expandability limited, expensive

Just a thought

I took the time to configure an identical Dell and the price I came up with was $1,988. Roughly $500 less than the MacBook. So when it comes down to it, it really depends on your needs. Bootcamp is always an option to run your windows apps on the mac,...
