Asus F8Vr review

A semi-portable laptop offering excellent performance and a great screen

Great screen ; Robust build ; Plenty of features

Quite heavy ; Disappointing performance

A well made and fully featured laptop, it's just a shame that it doesn't match the spec of its sample machine

Spiffy

I'm using this as a desktop replacement w/ only occasional travel. I erased Vista and installed Mandriva Linux 2008.0 -- much faster! It found and used the WiFi automatically. I have it setup dual-headed, connected to an external 24-inch (Dell 2450FPW)...

No h/w flaws. Very helpful having 5 USB ports. Lots faster than the Athlon-64 3000+ desktop it replaced. Unexpectedly came w/ a laptop case, so I didn't need to buy one separately. Most solid feeling keyboard I've used on a laptop

Vista is bloated and slow, and it's made all the worse with all the bloatware pre-installed on it. DVI-D port does not have holes to screw in the DVI-D cable securely -- would have preferred an HDMI port instead. Wimpy built-in speakers, but I connect...

Overall great laptop however a few improvements could make it superb

This is a fairly powerful laptop but the battery life isn't the greatest - maybe around 2 1/2 hours with continuous use?

Realatively light, fast laptop which has a beautiful screen with very vivid colors, only drawback is that its prone to glare. Its also something other than your run of the mill Dell laptop (not that dells are bad necessarily) Although I mainly use this...

The three most major complaints are: the placement of the Fn key and Ctrl key - they're switched compared to most common laptops! I find myself reaching for the Control key and hitting Fn and visa versa. Another thing is that the lid scratches VERY...

2 weeks ownership

No dead pixels, does what it's supposed to. I bought it for my mum so I only used it for a couple of weeks to install software and browse the web a little before giving it to her. WiFi worked as it was supposed to, picking up my home and a couple of...

Comes bundled with lots of installed bloatware that you have to pay for or uninstall. E.g. Office 2007, free for 60 days, I uninstalled that and installed a version I already own. Norton, free for 90 days, I uninstalled that and use AVG instead ; The...

Smooth transition!

Spiffy carrying case. "Fn" Key location is something you gotta get used to. Overall a good laptop for work and play.

After uninstalling the bloatware the laptop runs very well. Shipped quickly well packaged ; I was surprised buy how light this laptop was. My last laptop (Dell Inspiron 700m) was smaller but was about the same weight. Screen has nice colors. Lots of...

Short battery life bout 2 hours ; The power adapter cable is a little short
