Asus EeePC 1201PN

The Asus EeePC 1201PN netbook runs on a discrete GPU and gets better battery life than its predecessor, but the Atom processor is no longer dual-core.

Nvidia chip is great for 1080p HD video and light gaming. Full size keyboard. Lightweight. 2GB of memory. HDMI port. Windows 7 Home Premium.

Battery life would've been better with Optimus technology. Plain design. Pricey netbook.

Asus Eee PC 1201PN review: Asus Eee PC 1201PN

Asus Eee PC 1201PN

Comfortable keyboard, good screen and speakers; Ion processor offers some graphics and performance gains.

Full laptops can be had for the same price; streaming video and gaming are hit-and-miss with this single-core Atom/next-gen Ion configuration.

Touting the Asus Eee PC 1201PN as the first next-gen Nvidia Ion Netbook is a bit misleading, since it offers single-core Atom performance, with no automatic graphics switching in an expensive package that underperforms its predecessor.

The 12-inch ASUS Eee PC 1201PN is a netbook that will soon be released and comes packed with NVIDIA's ION 2 discrete graphics and a dual core Intel Atom D510 processor.

Asus Eee PC 1201PN review

Unveiled as the first Atom Netbook featuring a next-gen Nvidia Ion processor, the $499 Asus Eee PC 1201PN is an update to the very similarly named Asus Eee PC 1201N we reviewed at the beginning of 2010. Back then, we enjoyed the 12-inch 1,366x768...

Defect persists even after RMA "Repair"

If I give ASUS the benefit of the doubt and assume they did indeed replace a part AND test it afterwards, then the only logical conclusion is that they tested it from a PE Disc instead of the HDD installation. Guess what ASUS? You have a corrupted...

Streams DVD quality video very well. One of the few netbooks with 2GB RAM. Once up and running, overall performance is superior to most netbooks. Looks nice. HDMI out is a nice touch

If not for this problem and inexcusable response from ASUS, I would've given it 5 eggs. Defective out of the box. Every "Fn" key puts it to sleep (that's not a euphemism). Full range of testing including factory reset. ASUS issued RMA repair (they...

Defective out of the box

Missed Newegg's replacement by about a week. Very dissapointed Newegg wouldn't make an exception considering all the gear I've bought here over the last 11 years. ASUS remains my favorite brand of boards and laptops, but I must say that their Notebook...

Once up and running, very good speed for a netbook especially with graphics, and one of the few with 2GB of RAM. Nice display, nice size and average battery life. I stream audio & video all over my home from my HTPC and this unit plays said streams...

From the beginning, all "Fn" keys put it to sleep. Only Fn + F1 is supposed to do that. Obliged tech support with all typical troubleshooting steps, updates & fixes, including a factory reset. Received RMA from ASUS and it's taking FOREVER for them to...

Great netbook

Not really a con as it is a netbook, but it is a bit on the slow side. I just ordered a 4GB memory stick to help out with that. I also will be using this for work as well so I will be throwing in a SSD. Once that is done, this little machine will scream.

This is a great netbook. I love the full size keyboard and the fact that it has Windows 7 Premium (not Starter.) ; The display, Multi-touch touchpad are absolutely perfect ; Having an HDMI port is a HUGE added bonus. I've streamed HD content with ZERO...

Great netbook

If you want a netbook that looks and performs great, and don't want to get to far into Laptop price territory, BUY THIS!

Fast for a netbook ; Perfect size screen for browsing internet and facebooking ; 2 gigs of memory ; Real full version of Windows 7 ; LED screen is beautiful ; 5-6hrs on one charge is good for a Netbook this size

Bloatware (easily fixed in msconfig) ; Opening too many screens at once or opening a screen while downloading stuff slows it down alot (plan on this with any single-core netbook) ; Wish it came with Full version of Office given the netbooks price

Good Laptop, But....

Sleek design, light weight, good looking, webcam, HDMI cable, 500GB online storage. performance is ok. overall it is good laptop for the money

HD video play (1080p) on TV is not good as advertised. I play couple of 1080p videos (recorded on sony HD camcorder) in TV thru this laptop but output is not good (video is getting struck). DVD drive is missing, force me to brought external dvd drive...
