Award: RECOMMENDED PRODUCT
Asus has launched a bigger (and better) version of its popular Eee PC. Dubbed the Eee PC 901, this new version includes a lot of welcome improvements from the previous model, including more screen real estate, storage, and processing power. Asus also...
Extremely portable; great battery life; good screen size; Linux or Windows XP
Small keyboard; drive partitioning could cause issues for Windows users
the Eee 901 is hard to beat when it comes to portability and bang for the buck.
We received a Linux version for testing and like it much better than the original unit, though the keyboard is still a bit too cramped for our tastes. We’d also prefer the XP version, as Linux is relatively easy to use but it's still disorienting for...

The chassis seams match up with reasonably tight tolerances, plastics feel thick (though the pearl-like white plastics look cheap) and the display hinges are molded into body with the battery. Overall, the Eee PC 900 is almost identical to the original...
Small and light ; Reasonably well built and durable ; Flash-based storage ; Intel Atom processor surprisingly capable ; Surprisingly acceptable battery life
Impressive, but ASUS already has several superior Eee PC models on the market ; 12GB of storage isn't a single drive (one 4GB drive and one 8GB drive) ; White plastics feel nice but "look" cheap ; Keyboard too small/cramped
The Eee PC 901 is still an impressive mini notebook or "netbook" for your travel needs, but we hesitate to recommend this particular notebook over the newer Eee PC 1000H which features a larger keyboard, larger screen, and a larger capacity traditional...
The only obvious differences are the larger screen and the slightly deeper dimension (front to back) in order to accommodate the larger touchpad

Slightly bigger than the Eee 900 ; price is creeping up to the full-size laptop range

This update to the Eee PC 900 offers improved performance and much better battery life, but it's not the best mini-notebook.
All in all, the Eee PC 901 is a good evolutionary step in the Eee line. But when you consider that the MSI Wind NB, which features a larger keyboard and a bigger 10-inch screen, costs $100 less, this mini-notebook becomes less attractive. With the...

If the ASUS Eee 900 basically amounted to a larger-screened version of the 7-inch original, then the Eee 901 marks its graduation into a distinct model. Packing Intel's latest 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, in place of the 900′s Celeron 900MHz, ASUS could...
What could undermine the Eee 901 is nothing to do with its hardware; actually, its ASUS themselves who may have made for a difficult sell. Priced at $599 for either Windows or Linux versions, the 901 sits significantly higher than the MSI Wind ($499...

Five hour battery life
Limited storage capacity, cramped keyboard, and slow benchmark results
Indeed, the 901 took more than twice as long to complete our Photoshop benchmark as the other two netbooks here. On the other hand, the 901's standard six-cell battery far outstripped the competition's three-cells, eking out more than five and a half...
