ASUS G71G-Q1

By Cisco Cheng (pcmag.com)

The ultimate gaming laptop needs something more than the fastest processors and the most blistering 3D graphics cards, and ASUS is well aware of this. The ASUS G71G-Q1 ($2,000 street) is close to the bleeding edge, packing features like an Intel quad ...

Intel quad-core processor. Has 6GB of memory. Cavernous hard drives. High-resolution screen. Nice design. Two-year warranty. Competitive price

Graphics card is not a match for such a powerful system. An illuminated keyboard should've accompanied all of those LED lights

The ASUS G71G-Q1 makes a perfect media center or desktop replacement laptop, but if frame rates are paramount for you, there are systems that carry better graphics cards.

Asus G71V

By Rory Reid (cnet.co.uk)

The Asus G71V is designed to be the ultimate desktop-replacement laptop. It uses the first quad-core processor designed for portable machines, has a whopping 1TB of disk space, a Blu-ray combo drive and a high-end graphics card. It's unnecessarily ...

Quad-core CPU ; powerful graphics ; Blu-ray drive

Looks ; poor battery life

The G71V is unnecessarily ugly, but it is brutally quick. Its quad-core CPU runs rings around all other laptops, and most desktop PCs we've come across, plus its 1TB of storage and Blu-ray drive make it a fantastic multimedia machine

Likewise, Asus should be given props for the amount of storage in the G71V...

All good except popping noise from RealTek HD Audio

By Michael (newegg.com)

It comes with a nice backpack and a really nice mouse. I have not connected it yet to my TV - but suspect the blueray and HDMI to the tv will work well. I am wondering why they included Nero 8 when Nero 9 is available and this is a brand new released prod...

Fast, two cores is nice, two large 7200rpm 320 GB hard drives. It comes with Vista Home Premium - Ultimate would have been nice. It is 64 bit though. Everything seems to work right of the bat. I was confused at first with a different bootup that allows a...

The worst thing is the popping noise that occurs every 10 to 60 seconds. I suspect its a problem with the realtek audio chip or drivers as when updated drivers were installed it lessened the frequency but didnt stop it by any means, I wrote RealTek at pct...

Pros Far Outweigh Cons

By jhilgeman (newegg.com)

The cons are almost all fixable in some way, except for battery life, but I'm figuring out ways to extend it little by little. Still, it's primarily intended to be a gaming laptop, and those don't tend to have great battery life.

Excellent performance. Runs Photoshop, my development tools, and games better than my desktop

I had to do some tweaking right off the bat. There's an annoying "roar" sound at BIOS bootup (turned off in BIOS settings), and there are LEDs on the sides of the monitor that blink like crazy unless you use one of the OEM tools to turn it off. There's a...
