Nice Laptop, Bad Hard Drive

Like others have recommended, swap the hard drive for a SSD and this laptop will do you wonders.

Fast Reliable

Hard Drive is very slow

You need to immidiately replace the HDD with a SSD!

I purchased this laptop last year for $850, the newer version of this laptop is the ASUS N551JQ-EH71 which is a steal at $699. I can't believe people will buy ASUS laptops with the same specs and a slower i5 processor for the same or higher price!...

Fast quad core 4th gen i7 processor, sharp screen, great battery life.

Painfully slow 5400rpm HDD. Annoying mouse pad. Top of laptop is a fingerprint magnet.

Terrible for everything.

Supposed to be quad-core, 8gb ram, 840m etc. Feels like an old emachine. The parts in this do not live up to the spec. Don't go by these other reviews. If you want a decent multi purpose laptop, this is not the one. sucks for gaming, sucks for movies,...

It's a laptop that turns on.

slow response keyboard, windows 8, screen color quality sucks.

This is an edit, I have had this laptop for a while and am updating my review.

Unless you are looking to for a laptop that you will casually play games with you probably need to go with a laptop with a lesser processor. Sure this has 8 cores hyperthreaded, but an I5 could be clocked faster and be more responsive for multiple,...

Sound quality is amazing. I have never heard such quality sound from a portable device. The screen is nice and has not had any issues after about a year. This laptop is quick and I have never had any equipment fail (aside from Windows :) Cheap at the...

LAN port sucks. It is difficult to remove the LAN cable every time. Maybe there is a trick but I haven't found it and I am not a N00B when it comes to PCs. With that said, the Wifi is great (but not AC) and it has Bluetooth. Screen has a optimum...

"Shockingly" good! (get it?)

I would definitely recommend it. I'm pretty sure that weird shock thing is just something wrong with my outlets or something. Even if it was with the laptop, I don't think it's across the board. I would recommend waiting for it to go on sale because...

Fast, reliable, perfect for MMO gaming (WoW, GW2, HoTS, SWToR, FFXIV, etc) with high-ultra graphics no problem. Doesn't overheat like my old laptop (though it does blow hot air out the left side, easily remedied with a cooling pad). Has a beautiful,...

When the charger is plugged in, you can literally feel a current of electricity running through the laptop. If my hand rests anywhere on the laptop, and I make physical contact with anyone, both parties get a small shock. VERY strange, but not sure if...

Was a decent laptop, now is useless

It was fun while it lasted (about 6 months). Now it's useless and, of course, out of warranty. Absolutely not worth the full price tag, and I would say it's not worth it unless the price drops considerably.

Powerful, fast, was generally reliable. I bought it on sale for around $900.

Shipped with Windows 8.1. In my hurry to get away from that hot garbage, I ran into the brick wall that was terrible drivers and even worse: Windows 10. About 4-5 months ago I was still running 8.1 and began having serious wireless issues. The laptop...

Wilress N Broken in Windows 10

Update to Windows 10 made me sad.

Great laptop and plays games well.

Windows 10 breaks wireless N. There is no driver update from MediaTek for this. Deal breaker.

Solid Gaming Laptop

This is a great computer. But you must be careful not to drop it. The casing is aluminum and will bend is it is dropped. We had to replace the palm rest since we dropped it, it allowed us to see how well-built this machine is.

Fast CPU, good storage, can upgrade ram if you so desire and the video card is awesome. The machine runs cold even under stress. The sounds is very very good. Upgrading to Windows 10 was easy and the machine works better on windows 10

Downgrading to Windows 7 was not too much fun since there is no driver support directly from Asus. You can find guides online but you lose system stability and functionality
