A sleek design, good speakers and zippy Core i5 performance make the ASUS S56CA a solid 15-inch Windows 8 Ultrabook.

Slim design with DVD drive; Strong overall performance; Loud and clean audio; Speedy boot time; Runs cool

Keyboard somewhat mushy; Below-average battery life

Click to EnlargeThe ASUS S56CA-DH51 delivers strong performance, a speedy boot time and good sound inside a slim and solid design. We just wish this system lasted longer on a charge and that the keyboard had a little more spring in its step. If you...

PC is OK, not impressed with refurb

I like the size, screen is good quality, speed is great

DVD drive didn't work, wouldn't even recognize disks (of any kind). Didn't realize it until my warranty was up, now I'm stuck with it

Wanted so much to love it

I know that this model has been discontinued, but I wanted to share what it's like after living with it for nearly a year, which many reviewers don't do. Warranty is absolute garbage. Send your $1000+ laptop in for a bad memory module? Asus has a...

i7 3rd gen quad core cpu (best available at the time I purchased) ; gorgeous HD ips screen ; good sound for a laptop (when subwoofer attached) ; USB 3.0 for fast external hard drive transfers ; non-Intel based wifi chip

Not entirely compatible with older versions of USB, some items that do function just fine on USB 2.0 only ports ; Not the best sub components used inside ; Memory module failed within 10 months of purchase and I will have to buy some high quality...

If you plan to install a different OS, be aware that the SSD drive probably will not be large enough. Win 7 is simply too big even if you do a custom install and move things like the Users folders onto the other drive at install time. They still come...

Low ASUS price with their usual great quality. There certainly is nothing fancy about these units, but they do the job of daily office work wonderfully

Thanks to NewEgg's service, I will return this for a replacement. Will update once the replacement is received

Looks like a very nice laptop

Touchpad is not seated correctly. I can get my fingernail underneath the right side ; Screen is defective. When I touch any part of the laptop (vibrate it) a spot in the upper left part of the screen look like a rock has been dropped into a pond. Very...

Decent mid range laptop

This machine is best for those with tons of media. Big HDD, a DVD tray, decent battery life (4.5 hours of YouTube), and surprisingly good sound out of such a slim laptop.

Great hardware for the price, and the SSD cache is a noticeable speed boost (though not as quick as a true SSD drive). The aluminium case feels sturdy which should be expected from Asus. And there's a DVD drive! Why are these dying out

Windows 8 is best experienced with a touch screen, which this doessn't have. The touch pad gestures help, but I quickly installed 3rd party software to replace the Metro UI with a classic start menu. If you plan on keeping Windows 8, maybe you should...

False information from Asus?

Nothing angers me more than purchasing something based on pre-sales information then finding out that I was given incorrect information after the purchase. I hope someone from Asus will read this and provide the correct information regarding the BIOS...

Not sure yet, was planning to buy but I am getting conflicting information about the BIOS in this model

After reading the previous review comment from Asus support that said the BIOS could not be accessed without Windows 8 I decided to call Asus to confirm this. The support rep I spoke with assured me that the BIOS on this model could be accessed on boot...

I am so happy I purchased this laptop!

I am very happy with my purchase. Especially now that I have Windows 7 as my OS now, rather than W8. Make sure you turn on all of your cores! Once you do that, you REALLY see how fast your processor is. If by some chance you don't know how to do that,...

Great Value

I bought this computer to replace my 6-year old Toshiba laptop that died a couple of weeks ago. My primary reasons for choosing this model were the non-glare 1080p screen and the backlit keyboard - both are amazing! Powerful, fast, lots of connectivity...
