Asus S46CA-XH51

The Asus S46CA-XH51 is a handsomely designed Windows 7-equipped ultrabook that features a built-in DVD burner, USB 3.0 connectivity, and a full-size HDMI port, but its performance is so-so.

Built-in DVD burner. Durable aluminum chassis is easy on the eyes. Comfortable keyboard and touchpad. Reasonably priced.

Only one USB 3.0 port. Keyboard isn't backlit. Bloatware. Middling battery life.

Just RMA'd after half a day use

Would not recommend to a non tech savvy person as the OS comes loaded down with a lot of bloatware.

better then average spec for the $430 price on the refurb. Not sure if I would by new as the only thing that makes this a good choice is the sub $500 price

So far so good...

Be careful applying windows updates. At one point it locked up and wouldn't start properly because there were so many pending updates (over 100 at first)... so I had to restore windows from the backup partition, and apply the updates a few at a time....

Decent boot time (about 30 secs.) ; Very thin (under 1 inch) ; Built in optical drive ; Good performance from the i5

Glossy screen ; Flimsy keyboard ; Excessive bloatware ; Poor battery life
