Asus Transformer Book Trio

The Asus Transformer Book Trio is an intriguing concept that weds an Android tablet and a Windows PC, but the ambitious 3-in-1 design falls short.

Combines tablet convenience and laptop productivity. Has both Windows and Android capability. Decent performance in both operating systems

Expensive. Awkward union of tablet and laptop with hardware switching. Kludgy file sharing between laptop and tablet. Tablet portion occasionally failed to turn on during testing

First announced the Computex trade show last June, the Asus Transformer Book Trio ($1,499, as tested) is three devices in one. It's a laptop, it's a tablet, and it's even a desktop PC (sort of). The Transformer Book Trio is the next step in the move...

Asus Transformer Book Trio TX201LA review

Solid build quality, Switching between Android and Windows is painless, Tablet is easy to dock and remove, Strong CPU performance

Heavy and bulky for its size, Battery life is average at best, Slow storage performance, Fidgety touchpad, Not a good value

The Trio is the result of three years of creative thinking and innovation from Asus, and in some ways it’s an excellent device. Transitioning from Android to Windows is easy, and the hardware paired with each OS is quick enough to provide an enjoyable...

Asus Transformer Book Trio

The Asus steps up the hybrid market with their Transformer Book Trio. Not only is it a tablet and laptop, the detachable keyboard can plug into a monitor, effectively making it a desktop PC. The 3-in-1 design is possible as the tablet and keyboard...

Full HD display with good color reproduction, Relatively smooth performance in tablet and laptop mode, Three distinct configuration modes: tablet, laptop and desktop PC, Functional Android and Windows 8 OS

Combined with the keyboard, weighs a hefty 3.7 pounds, Icons and text are too small in Windows mode, File sharing between tablet and laptop has limited uses, Poor battery life

Expert Review

Attractive, smart design, Combines Windows and Android well, Nice 1080p IPS screen

Heavy in laptop mode, Expensive, Short battery life, Disappointing keyboard and touch pad, Scanty tablet storage

But as it stands, you could get a better, lighter, longer-lasting ultrabook, like HP's Spectre 13, and a good separate Android tablet, like the Asus-made 2013 Google Nexus 7, together for about $250 less. Unless you really need both operating systems...

ASUS Transformer Book Trio hybrid laptop

An Android tablet, Windows 8 laptop, and Windows 8 PC, all in one mixed up product

Separate Android tablet and Windows 8 PC units ; Full HD screen

Felt sluggish during general use ; Base has a hard drive rather than SSD

With the Transformer Book Trio, ASUS gives you a device that can be used as an Android tablet, a Windows laptop or desktop PC. It's a product that continues the company's fine traditional of innovation, but we don't think it's ready for the mainstream...

Asus Transformer Book Trio TX201LA

While Asus has created countless Windows and Android devices, the Transformer Book Trio TX201LA is the first to unite the two platforms. See also the 11 best tablets of 2014

Fusing an Android tablet with a Windows 8 Ultrabook is an impressive feat of engineering, but it's far from an ideal partnership
