Asus Transformer Book TX300

No one has yet come up with the perfect Windows 8 laptop-tablet hybrid, despite dozens of attempts between late last year and now. The powerful Asus Transformer Book, however, comes pretty close, adding several premium features that are on my wish list.

The Asus Transformer Book TX300 is a rare hybrid with a Core i7 CPU, a high-res screen, and smart dual hard drives -- there's an SSD in the tablet half, and a larger hard drive in the keyboard base.

The system is awkwardly top-heavy, and you feel as if you're fighting the touch pad at every turn.

Asus adds a lot of what I've been looking for in a hybrid to the Transformer Book, but no one has yet really nailed the perfect laptop/tablet combo.

ASUS Transformer Book

The ASUS Transformer Book TX300 offers a premium design, a full HD detachable display and great battery life, but it's on the heavy side.

Handsome design; Gorgeous 1080p display; Solid performance; Long battery life

Heavy for 13-inch notebook; System heats up easily; Subpar webcam

Click to EnlargeASUS' Transformer Book TX300 is a powerful tablet and solid notebook in one. Its display is gorgeous, its industrial design is sexy and its keyboard is comfy. Throw in the Transformer Book's all-day battery life, and you're looking at...

Asus Transformer Book TX300 review – the HYBRID

The Asus Transformer Book TX300 is a versatile machine, capable to go as a Windows 8 tablet or as a regular laptop. It meets most of my expectations, although there are still things to brush for the next generation. But if you're after a hybrid, you...

IPS screen, powerful hardware, good build quality, good keyboard and trackpad, fair battery life

some light bleeding on the screen, the hinge does not grip the tablet properly, rather large and heavy for a 13 incher

Asus Transformer Book TX300 review

A well-built machine with bags of power and a unique twist

Great keyboard ; Easy to switch between laptop and tablet ; Decent performance ; Good battery life

Last-gen processor ; Very heavy ; Slightly ungainly tablet ; Buggy performance

The Asus Transformer Book TX300 is a great laptop, with a great trick up its sleeve. While it's unlikely to give the iPad a run for its money as a tablet, it's still a useful device with real-world benefits, and, most importantly, this doesn't hamper...

Asus Transformer Book TX300

Fully detachable screen, Good build quality, Fast 128GB SSD, Dual storage with 500GB HDD

Expensive, Poor touch pad, Only two speakers, Speakers not in the best position for landscape use

The Transformer Book TX300 is essentially two products in one, so starting with the tablet you get a device with a large 13.3" Full HD (1920 x 1080) well performing screen, albeit not in the same class as Apple's Retina displays. There's also better...

"You can get so much better for the money."

This isn't a total don't buy. As far as the new hybrid lap-tabs out there, I hear that this one is one of the best. The Transformer has it's perks just as much as it has it's flaws, as does anything.

Very high resolution and full HD, very nice looking, The core i7 gets a lot done, large amount of storage, and excellent screen/tablet.

No optical drive, only 4 GB ram, no HDMI (only micro HDMI), below average battery life, and, despite having the i7 processor, some programs don't function as well as they do on other lap-tabs of this type.
