Asus U46E-BAL6

A strong design, tons of features, and plenty of performance make the Asus U46E-BAL6 one of the best 14-inch laptops we've seen all year.

The Asus U46E-BAL6 has an excellent keyboard and a well-designed frame, and comes packed with a fast processor, ample connectivity features--WiMax and USB 3.0 included--and plenty of hard-drive space and RAM for an aggressive price

The laptop doesn't have dedicated graphics, and the battery life is good, but we've seen better

Asus U46E-BAL5

The 14-inch widescreen and its 1,366-by-768 resolution can be found in most mainstream configurations, but it's bright, with very good viewing angles. The Samsung QX411-W01 uses a glass-covered screen, which liven up photos and movies with...

Stand-out metallic design. Sweet deal of a price. 750GB hard drive. Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM are a powerful combination. WiDi 2.0 and WiMAX. USB 3.0 port. Very good battery life

Lacks a discrete graphics chip

While other mainstream laptops are putting in boilerplate parts, the Asus U46E-BAL5 raises the bar with excellent processing power and a glut of cutting-edge features.

Asus U46E-BAL6

Although the 14-inch widescreen has a boilerplate 1,366-by-768 resolution, it's bright and has wide viewing angles. The Samsung QX411-W01UB, however, uses a glass-covered screen, which adds pop to photos and movies. The U46E-BAL6 has a solid...

Extremely powerful quad core processor. 8GB of memory. Stand-out metallic design. 750GB hard drive is the largest. WiDi 2.0 and WiMAX wireless technologies built-in. USB 3.0 port on board. Very good battery life

Lacks a discrete graphics chip

The Asus U46E-BAL6 is a processing goliath, thanks to its quad-core processor, and it's only meant for those who abuse their laptops with high-end video and photo editing packages. No backlit keyboard. The Asus U46E-BAL6 is a mainstream laptop that...

"Good computer with a few minor issues."

I am an extremely heavy user. I'm a law student and I carry it to campus with me every day, carry it from class to class, and use it pretty constantly from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. Most of what I do is word processing - I don't play games or anything, so I...

Long battery, durable, fast

I have run into 2 aesthetic problems. The grooves in the aluminum case are IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean. Also, after only 5 months, the paint is coming off of the keys. Also, my last laptop had a sort of dial for volume control - no buttons.

"Just hope it doesn't break down"

I bought this computer for my son for college. Six months later the screen just died for no apparent reason. I called Asus and spent over an hour on the phone with someone there, explaining the situation and getting an RME. He said I had to send it in...

Seems like good value for money, and fairly light weight

Terrible service if you have a problem.

"Fast, cheap, quality build, great for business user"

For the serious business user with many many open programs at the same time, great buy. You spend another 300-400 upgrading to Win Pro, Office, Adobe and such, but that makes the equivalent Mac $2k.

I spend most of my day in the office running email, 10 internet broswers, Pandora, and a few videos at the same time. This thing chews it up and spits it out like lightning. Makes my old Dell look like a abacus.

Speakers are ehh. Don't know about graphics for gaming.

"Great Ultrabook"

It's been a few years since my last computer purchase. I reviewed the market more this time than ever and was frustrated more than once. I really liked the Mac book Air and the Zenbook but the technology they share is a bit new for me and the U46E-BAL6...

Nice keyboard very user friendly. The overall specs on this laptop are above and beyond its price. Perfect size for all around use on a plane or in the classroom PERFECT!

Average sound but can be overcome with a good set of ear buds. Graphics are average as well but very quick I did notice just a touch of lag on some high end video but overall it works within its price

"Great Buy!"

Have to agree with the other commenter, wouldn't complain about the price at all, especially after comparing with the overpriced macbooks.

Awesome Awesome Computer. Great feel, extremely light, and very powerful.
