Asus V2S User Review

The market for a 14-inch notebook with Intel Core 2 Duo performance and dedicated nVidia graphics is more popular than ever. Asus comes to this party with the impressive V2S. But is this notebook any better than the competition? Read on to see what one...

Great Notebook but Not for Linux

Great Laptop for Windows. Linux users beware. All hardware, save for the graphics, seem to work with Ubuntu. Rocks games for a mid-range notebook with the power for all other tasks.

Excellent specs. Core i5, GT425m graphics w/ DX11, usb 3.0, HDMI, eSATA. Sound is top notch (for built in laptop speakers). Optimus graphics pro: i like the automatic switching from desktop to games. For those who didn't read the manual: the blue/white...

NO LINUX OPTIMUS SUPPORT!!! I use linux exclusively (redhat, Cent, suse, Backtrack, and my current at-home Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04) except to play games. I bought this notebook knowing that Linux does not support, and according to the latest Nvidia...

It's nice but could be better

It's a fine purchase.

Fair keyboard. I'm a fan of the chicklet layout but this suffices ; Nice audio system. Can be super loud if you want ; Nice speeds, boot time is fair ; Nice webcam ; Graphics card is great for low-moderate gaming. I ran Medieval 2 Total War with NO...

If you upgrade to the model that costs $1,030 on newegg you can get a far better display. So I wouldn't recommend buying this model specifically ; Trackpad is dreadful compared to my old Macbook Pro's trackpad ; TONS of bloatware ; Keyboard is fairly...

Baby Fermi

Overall 4 stars because of issue with punkbuster. Win 7 is great and the computer runs fast.

This is a great laptop and very powerful. I really like the 14'' screen and how easy it is to carry around. I have a 15.6'' Asus F3SV (2007) which I love. Asus has good build quality. The Nvidia 425M is very powerful and can handle WoW or an other...

Gamers please read: EvenBalence-Punkbuster do not like duel graphics as are featured in the Optimus Tech found in this laptop. Core I5 Intel Graphics + 425M are both loaded into memory are will get you kicked on all punkbuster enabled games. You can...

Awesome!

I'm glad the exhaust port is on the left side! I have a friend that bought the MSI that has the exhaust on the right, melts your mousing hand off... The only thing that would make this thing better is if it had some sort of magical wireless mouse that...

1.)Fast ; 2.)Asus's performance adjust ability; with one button it can be swapped to high performance, or down to high battery life ; 3.)425M +1GB = Borderlands on maxed settings runs flawlessly ; 4.)HDMI + USB 3.0 + eSata = Future proof ; 5.)Light and...

Windows 7. lol unfortunately a better operating system does not exist... maybe XP, but Its nice to know the OS isn't a decade old

awesome notebook

Newegg had this laptop as a "deactivated item" when I wanted to purchase it, so I purchased it elsewhere for $160 more! A little annoyed at myself, but even at the price I paid this laptop was well worth it. Be aware this laptop is not available for...

Light, fast, wife thinks its pretty, easy access to everything inside. Linux (Arch Linux) installs without any problems recognizing all hardware out of the box. That was something i didn't exactly expect. ASUS quality. I've owned a lot of notebooks,...

Not exactly a con but, the dvd drive is pretty noisy ; The screw heads holding it together break fairly easy. I broke one off just getting the keyboard off

Good laptop

Very nice professional lap top

This notebook can be expanded to 4gb. The second memory slot is under the keyboard. Not too hard to do! It is light, and it has a 9 cell battery option. Remember that only 64bit vista or windows can use 4gb ram at this time

Keyboard is a little soft, but not a big knock

Double Edged Sword

All-in-all I dont feel too bad about my purchase in terms of what i got for what i paid. However with the next generation of chips ands ddrIII comming to laptops this may not have been the best purchse unless u need to have a laptop now (like I did). ...

This laptop is still the best Bang for your buck product. It is overall around 1600$ and will give u stats equal to a 2500$+ laptop in many ways. There are problems however.... I mean for the dollar I feel this is a 5 star laptop, but it is advertised...

first, this laptop's specs are not what they seem. The Video card (8600 gs) is vastly inferior to the 8600 gt and the 8800 will be comming soon. Furthermore, this video card is running at a DDRII level so it will not represent the stats a 8600gs would...

Excellent Notebook

Asus makes a great notebook. Not cheap, but worth every penny. IMO they are the premier notebook builder - much better than Dell, HP, Thinkpad, Toshiba.

Great combination of power with low weight. 5LB notebooks with these specs are unusual ; Great Display. Esata ! Very High build quality

Comes with Vista Business. Its a pig. After a week, I bit the bullet, and reformatted for a clean XP Pro install. Now its really snappy and a pleasure to use. Would be nice if Asus made it an option to buy the same hardware with XP instead of Vista...
