Asus VivoBook S400E review

Rather than employ some kind of bizarre convertion mechanism to bring tablet functionality to a laptop -- like the Dell XPS 12 or Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 -- the S400 simply whacks a touchscreen into a regular laptop.

Affordable price; Good performance; Sturdy, portable design.

Lacklustre display; Unimpressive battery life.

The Asus S400E packs an Intel Core i7 processor into a burly metal shell and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for it. Its touchscreen makes it easy to navigate around Windows 8 but it's let down by a poor resolution and unimpressive colours.

Asus VivoBook S400E review

This model is very much about the Windows 8 experience. It looks good, the touchscreen works superbly, and the laptop is itself light and nimble. As an overall system, the Asus is a model you'll want to come back to.

Asus VivoBook S400E

Asus's touchscreen laptop, the VivoBook S400E, promises an Ultrabook-style experience at a cut-down price

A stylish and potent Ultrabook-alike for sensible money: Asus’ VivoBook S400E isn't perfect, but it's an affordable all-rounder

Great, slim design. Touchscreen and Windows 8 works very well.

Poor keyboard - prone to typing errors. Could have been lighter. Screen is very glossy so viewing angle is very narrow

Asus VivoBook S400E-CA040H

Very clear screen and excellent keyboard with well spaced keys. Great performance. Light and easy for travel, and when in my office with external keyboard and mouse, with 2 x 24" monitors attached is a great "work horse"

After using with external keyboard and numlock applied, when you reboot and use it as a laptop again, the annoying Fn Numlock is set. Until you realise this, you think you are going mad when you type your password and it isn't accepted.

Asus VivoBook S400E-CA040H

Sleek. Touch screen very responsive. Quick start even without SSD.

Touchpad-sometimes less responsive when compared to touchscreen. Battery life could ve been better. Screen panel not the best-but not the worst too.
