ASUS X550CA

The ASUS X550CA-DB31 offers an attractive 15-inch chassis, strong audio, and costs just $449, making this a good budget Windows 8 laptop.

Attractive design; Good audio; Responsive touchpad; Affordable

Short battery life; Limited port selection

With an attractive design, strong audio and a low price, the ASUS X550CA is a solid sub-$500 notebook. However, you have to be willing to live with a few compromises, such as limited viewing angles and mediocre battery life. At this price, we prefer...

Asus VivoBook X550CA review

The screen could be better, but this is a well-priced laptop that gets the best out of its old hardware

Nevertheless, screen and battery life issues aside, the Asus VivoBook X550CA is still a marked improvement over its predecessors. Its Ivy Bridge processor may be showing its age, but it can still compete with other budget laptops in raw performance,...

ASUS X550CA-XO113H Laptop

At £329.99, can this budget laptop compete with its more expensive rivals?

Incredible value ; Impressively quiet and cool ; Decent touchpad and keyboard

Feels cheap ; Slow Celeron processor ; Unimpressive screen

To be entirely fair, we shouldn’t expect anything more from a £329 laptop, and its perfectly fine for everyday use - it should just be noted that the screen is one of the more obvious areas of cost saving.

Don't skimp on a refurbished machine if you can. Buy a new product with support and software included. I am very unhappy with my purchase and will never buy a refurbished laptop again.

It is a good looking machine with a nice finish and full keyboard. Large hard drive

Windows 8, no support, no software, refurbished. Within a week of receiving the laptop it stopped working. It is stuck on Windows update loop and needs a full restore or boot. Want to restore the machine to OEM? You can't because there is no software...

Solid for the price....

It has a very solid feel construction wise. I love the finish of the outside and around the keyboard, it is "brushed" so my finger prints do not appear. For the price you really cannot beat the specs of this laptop. I bought it mainly to do schoolwork...

The only big thing I noticed and is the only thing keeping this from being 5 eggs is that the keyboard is 2 languages. It is a full US-QWERTY keyboard however it as green alternative letters on about half of the keys. I think it is French. It still...

Great blend of power and features

I bought this for my wife and she loves it. I sacrificed a little on the chip for the touchscreen and I'm glad I did. My wife does not do heavy computing so having the Microsoft 8 in touchscreen (the best way to use it) was more than a fare trade.Nice...
