HP Pavilion 17z (A12-9720P, Radeon R7 M340) Laptop Review

Super slow for super cheap. If first impressions are everything, then AMD is in a lot of trouble. Our latest Bristol Ridge notebook pairs a fairly respectable GPU with a CPU that is far below average for a very imbalanced system.

deep contrast and wide gamut for the price ; removable battery ; decent speakers ; inexpensive

gaming performance bottlenecked by slow CPU ; slow system responsiveness ; moderate backlight bleeding ; very poor CPU performance ; small trackpad dimensions ; below average battery life ; flexible lid; creaky chassis ; system fan always active ; no...

The A12-9720P APU is a strong example of how far behind AMD has been in the CPU race prior to the advent of Ryzen and the Zen architecture. Normally when a processor runs hotter and louder than an alternative, you'd expect it to perform faster. This is...

Product appeared to be a good value, but...

Apparent good value at purchase, but when we started using it, we couldn't connect to our home wi-fi unless we were in the same room as our router. After a chat with a technologist, I was informed that our wireless connectivity/card is a range of 10-15...

Expected better performance

Added lighted keyboard, hybrid disk drive and Intel WLAN to base unit. With the Hybrid disk, 8GB of memory and one of AMD's faster processors I thought this would be a screamer. It isn't. To be fair, the lags in response could be caused by Windows 10....
