Review Alienware M15x Gaming-Notebook

Back from the Future? The M15x already represents one of the most

Excellent workmanship; Futuristic but posh design; High stability; Multifarious and adjustable light; Very good display; Good input devices; Fairly low surface temperature; High performance; Over-averagely good sound; Pleasant soundscape in idle mode

Average battery life; Intensely reflective display; Smudge susceptible display frame; No HDMI

Efficient gaming notebooks that we've already had in our test lab. Either with a GeForce GTS 160M like the MSI GT628 or with a GeForce GTX 260M like the Asus G60VX, the Asus G71GX and the mySN XMG5 (Clevo M860TU) or with a GeForce GTX 280M (SLI) like...

Alienware Area-51 m15x

It's easy to be seduced by Alienware's m15x notebook. From its handsome silver-gray case to its cool-yet-tasteful LED accents to its comfortable lap weight of less than eight pounds, this 15.4-inch machine had us at hello. Of course, only excellent...

Portable size, powerful parts, and a stylish aesthetic

Expensive, gimmicky touch buttons, and no eSATA

In the end, our infatuation with the m15x remains strong. It’s as powerful as any 17-inch notebook out there and much easier to carry around. And it looks good, to boot. Consider us sold—even if the price does break us.

Review Alienware Area-51 m15x Notebook

The empire strikes back. Alienware announced a compact high perf

Individual design of the notebook possible; Striking LED illumination; Optimal interface alignment; SmartBay; Keyboard is pleasant to use; Bright display with high resolution, good contrast and matte surface; Very good performance in 3D and office...

Plastic case with modest workmanship; Wobbling and squeaking display hinges; Hot keys not very responsive; Noisy and hot under load

Another important point that speaks for the m15x is the low noise level in office and internet mode, because the notebook offers the possibility to switch between dedicated and integrated graphics , which significantly reduces the noise. This obviously...

Alienware M15x

Alienware's big and bulky 15-inch M15x pulls out most of the stops, thanks to a super-powered CPU.

Amazingly powerful for a 15-inch laptop, Highly configurable, Adds 16:9 display

Configuration options can get expensive, Far from portable

Alienware M15x (Core i7)

The metal-clad, otherworldly Alienware M15x gaming laptop delivered the best performance scores yet.

Fantastic all-metallic design. Fastest mobile processor available. Excellent graphics card. Customizable LED lights in the keyboard, around touchpad and button. 1080p screen resolution.

Glass screen is like a mirror. Heaviest in its class. Pricey.

Alienware m15x Review

The M15x is Alienware's latest gaming notebook, featuring an Intel Core i7 processor, 15.6-inch screen, and Nvidia GTX 260M graphics. Is this monster worth its asking price? Read our review to find out

Unique design and lighting ; Stunning 1080p display ; Very high performance and build quality

Mile-high price tag as configured ; Larger and heavier than typical 15.6” gaming notebooks ; Poor touchpad surface ; Has DisplayPort but HDMI would be preferred

I estimate the six-cell battery will last around one hour, so for any unplugged freedom the 9-cell is a good option. Note that the nine-cell battery sticks out the bottom, which makes it somewhat inconvenient to carry but raises the notebook up...

Alienware M15x

This 15-inch beast of a gaming rig is tops in all categories—including price.

The Alienware M15x is undoubtedly the fastest 15-inch gaming notebook we've tested, and its looks match its performance. However, other rigs offer better bang for your buck. For example, the ASUS G51J-A1 may not have the cool backlit keyboard, edge-to...

Alienware M15x (with Core i7-920XM)

To fans of high-end hardware who want to be a little more mobile: Check out the new Alienware M15x. Take Alienware's M17x, shrink it down to the all-purpose size bracket (our test unit had a 15.6-inch screen), and pop in a Core i7 CPU. If you don't...

Reasonably slick design ; High-end performance in a small(ish) frame

Poor battery life ; Expensive

If money's no object and mobile gaming is your goal, the Core i7-fueled M15x strikes a reasonable balance between size and speed.

Review: Alienware Area-51 m15x

What is superior gaming ability in a laptop worth? How about unparalleled business performance and high-def entertainment? What if you tossed in a cool light...

Tip-top business and gaming performance. Lots of included extras for gaming elitists. The solid and handsome design will please gamers, and cool lighting effects will titillate geeks

Exorbitant price that only a space tourist could pay without wincing. For all the expense, it’s not the very best gaming PC. Dual batteries take a long time to charge up. The Blu-ray drive must be removed to accommodate the secondary battery

Alienware Area 51 m15x Power Laptop

One of the most powerful laptops yet invaded the PC World Test Center--and provided unearthly performance.

Seemless, clean design ; Great performance-tweaking apps

Slightly creaky display lid ; Expensive

The only potential downer here, besides the laptop's price, is that all of the LED lighting that helps you customize your machine also makes the top of the display feel a little flimsy. Yep, the display, probably the most susceptible part of the...

Product Specifications

The Area-51 m15x contains the world's most powerful mobile graphics card. Alienware has always set the standard for graphics capabilities and the tradition continues. Alienware is the leader in high-performance computers. HD video and audio editing, 3D animation and high-end PC gaming suddenly don't seem as resource intensive as before. Increased processor efficiency means you can work away from your power cable worry-free. Instantly recognizable, Alienware's designs communicate an appreciation for quality in both style and performance. Following in this tradition, Alienware introduces the all-new Ripley design. Subtler than previous designs, its sleek form showcases the artistry that goes into each Alienware, both inside and out. Alienware engineers scrutinized every element down to the smallest connector to improve performance, while the system's rigid magnesium alloy frame not only provides protection from physical shock, but also aids in thermal management by retaining less heat than steel.
