Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Series (2014) review: Very good looks and value, not a lot of choice

Dell unveiled the Inspiron 14 7000 series laptop (and the 15 and 17 7000 series) in September of last year, billing it as its thinnest and strongest Inspiron to date.

The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 series provides very good performance and nearly 8 hours of battery life in an attractive, thin aluminum body. It's well-priced for what you're getting, particularly the highest-end configuration.

The $800 entry version does not have a full-HD screen and it will cost you $200 more to get a configuration that does. It has a lean port and connection assortment and older 802.11n Wi-Fi instead of 802.11ac.

While the entry model is less of a bargain than it used to be and configurations are limited, the thin, aluminum-clad Dell Inspiron 14 7000 remains an attractive option for its looks, performance, and price.

Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Series review: Upscale looks at a reasonable price

When it comes to laptops -- and really many other products -- there are people who care more about value and getting the job done than looks and bells and whistles, and vice versa. The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Series aims to satisfy both groups and, for...

The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Series offers mainstream laptop buyers a more stylish option than lower-end Inspirons. It's well-priced for its design and configuration, which includes an aluminum body that's barely more than half an inch thick, a 1080p...

Dell offers just two hardware configurations and no option with a hybrid or solid-state drive. Battery life is decent, but not quite the nearly 9 hours Dell quotes.

Though its components and performance are somewhat average for its price, the Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Series' aluminum chassis, backlit keyboard, and 1080p touch screen give it a more premium feel.

Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Review

The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 is a striking aluminum notebook with a colorful touch screen and good battery life.

Attractive and thin aluminum design; Good battery life; Colorful and responsive touch screen; Accurate touchpad

Keyboard somewhat mushy with uneven backlighting; Below-average display brightness; Not fastest in its class

The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 is a striking aluminum notebook with a colorful touch screen and good battery life.

Dell Inspiron 7000 A366LT

With the magnum force of a hit movie, PCs packing PIII-550 CPUs take over the Power Desktops chart. Mighty processors dominate the notebooks chart, too, while flat CRTs and USB ports invade the monitor and modem charts.

Fastest notebook we've tested, panoramic screen, huge hard drive, DVD-ROM drive

"Tries to feel premium but fails miserably in terms of functionality"

It is very sad that Dell phased out the Vostro line of laptops. This Inspiron looks fine, but is not a professional piece of equipment to work with. It seems that Dell put a lot of effort on cheap aesthetics (like a Chinese knock-off of a premium brand...

Good looking aluminum body, and that's about it.

Dreadful keyboard
