Dell Inspiron 8600 (Iss. 21 2004)

If you're looking for a powerhouse notebook, the Dell Inspiron 8600 offers amazing performance.

Great battery life. Good price.

Bulky. Better screens out there.

All in all, the Dell 8600 is a powerful system. But for greater gaming power and better connectivity, check out the Compaq Presario R3000Z.

Dell Latitude X300

Ultraportable has a great design that accepts a number of expansion options.

The Latitude X300 offers great flexibility and portability in an easy-to-carry package. If you've got the money to spare, you should get both the D-Bay for travel and the Media Base for the desktop.

Dell Latitude X300 Notebook Computer (Dell-X300SB)

What's Hot: Artwork: Rick Rizner, John GoddardTake a 3-pound notebook and give it speed, a good keyboard, and lots of expansion choices, and you have Dell's Latitude X300, an ultraportable that's more tempting than most. The X300 pushes thin-and-light...

Dell Inspiron 8600 2007 review: Dell Inspiron 8600 2007

Fast; comes with cutting-edge components, including the GeForce FX Go5650 GPU; has DVD+RW drive and built-in 802.11a or b/g antenna.

Expensive.

The Inspiron 8600 desktop replacement is one of the best and fastest notebooks on the block; it's great for business or personal use.

Dell Latitude X300

The 3-pound Dell Latitude X300 provides almost everything you could want in an ultraportable notebook.

For corporate users, Dell offers its OpenManage Client Adminstrator management suite and ImageWatch tools for deploying a common operating system and applications across Dell systems.

Service and support

Dell Inspiron 5150

Superb performance; awesome battery life; big display; DVD+R/+RW drive; 802.11a/b/g wireless.

Too heavy for frequent travel.

For mainstream notebooks, it doesn't get much better than the old Inspiron 5100--unless it's the souped-up 5150.

Dell Inspiron 8600

If you're looking for a powerhouse notebook, the Dell Inspiron 8600 offers amazing performance. But it doesn't have as large a hard drive or as many USB ports as its competitiors, hurting its overall rating.

Great battery life. Good price

Bulky. Better screens out there

Dell offers solid performance and a great battery life. But the 8600 is a little fat around the edges and falls behind in looks.

Dell Inspiron 8600 Review (pics, specs)

The Dell Inspiron 8600 is best considered as a desktop replacement style notebook but with decent mobility. The Inspiron 8600 measures in at 1.5 thick by 14.2 wide and 10.9 deep. It weighs a modest 7.2 pounds, which is not bad for a desktop replacement...

First Looks - LG X300 Netbook

Your guess is as good as mine if computing tablets would see out netbooks this year. Anyhow, we took the very thin and very premium LG X300 out for a spin to see how it fares before they turn into an artifact forever lost in the sands of time.
