Dell Inspiron Duo (Black)

The flip screen implementation is an original and refreshing take on the convertible tablet, but the Dell Inspiron Duo underwhelms when it comes to features and tablet performance.

Clever and refreshing take on convertible tablet design. High resolution screen. Excellent keyboard and mouse button combination. Sturdy netbook. 2GB of DDR3 memory included. Fast-spinning hard drive

Bare-bones feature set. Battery is small and not user-removable. Poor battery life. Touch performance is sluggish. Components can't handle Windows 7 Home Premium. Cluttered with 3rd party and proprietary software

Review: Dell Inspiron Duo

What is the Dell Inspiron Duo? Cut through the mystery and you will find - sorry to burst your bubble - a Windows netbook with...

320GB hard drive is bigger than my laptop’s. Flipping system works well, feels sturdy. Dell Stage custom launcher app loads automatically in tablet mode, makes Windows a bit more useful as a slate. Duo Audio Station (0 more) adds much-improved audio...

Tediously slow all around; get used to a lot of waiting. Screen is hideous. Too heavy for regular, table-free use

Dell Inspiron Duo

Though it sports one of the most innovative designs we've seen in a while, the Dell Inspiron Duo lacks the necessary touch responsiveness and completely misses as a netbook.

Innovative convertible tablet design. High-resolution screen. Excellent keyboard and mouse button combination. Sturdy netbook. 2GB of DDR3 memory included. Fast-spinning hard drive.

Bare-bones feature set. Small, non-removable battery. Poor battery life. Touch functionality is flawed and sluggish. Components are not equipped to handle Windows 7 Home Premium. Cluttered with third-party and proprietary software.

Dell Inspiron Duo

A cool flip-hinge design can't compensate for sluggish touch software and poor battery life.

While the gorgeous rubberized chassis and responsive touchscreen make the Inspiron Duo seem compelling, its short battery life, sluggish touch software, mediocre media playback, and lack of ports make it a tough sell. For much less than the Duo's $549...

Dell Inspiron 9300

Expensive, full-featured entertainment notebook could be more powerful.

Conveniently designed with lots of ports

Doesn't have a built-in TV tuner

This beautiful 17-inch wide screen has fun-to-use media buttons, but you can find better-sounding entertainment notebooks; and for the money, we'd have like to get a TV tuner built-in.

Dell Inspiron 9300

The Dell Inspiron 9300 is the company's first Media Center Edition notebook, and it's a fine effort.

Great-looking screen. Blistering graphics. Very good battery life given the size.

TV tuner is external and optional.

All told, the Dell Inspiron 9300 is a very good system if you're a multimedia fanatic, a DVR junkie, or a part-time gamer. Just be sure to opt for the TV tuner.
