Review Dell Mini 1012 Netbook

Nvidia Ion Killer. The Broadcom Crystal HD chip in Dell's Mini 10 ...

Long battery life ; 1366x768 pixel ; Silent ; Stable case & hinges ; Smooth HD videos ; Very good keyboard

High waste air temperatures ; No HDMI ; Poor touchpad feedback

That not more manufacturers have had the idea of building in an HD chip like that of Broadcom. The perpetual "I want HD" problem would be solved and the minis still have a very good runtime, anyway

Dell Mini 10

Dell's popular Netbook adds HD video acceleration for a solid movie-watching experience, but requires a still-in-beta Flash update for streaming video.

Sharp design; higher display resolution; HD video acceleration hardware

Broadcom HD video requires beta software for streaming video; smallish touch pad

Dell Inspiron Mini iM1012-687OBK

Editors' note: This review is part of our spring 2010 retail laptop and desktop roundup , which covers specific fixed configurations of popular systems found in retail stores.

Sophisticated design; good battery life.

Smaller hard drive than the competition offers.

This retail version of Dell's Mini 10 Netbook, called the iM1012-687OBK, has a great battery, but chances are it's sitting on a shelf right next to a less expensive Netbook with a bigger hard drive.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1012)

This sturdy netbook delivers excellent battery life, not to mention color options and one of the best keyboards we've seen.

Gorgeous design; long battery life; superior keyboard; color options; LoJack, security extras

Mouse buttons take getting used to; stuttery streaming video; mediocre Webcam

The Dell Mini 10 is one of our favorite Pine Trail netbooks so far. Not only is its design attractive, but its keyboard is also far better than the older Mini 10's. And its performance is just as good as that of netbooks with comparable specs and prices

Dell Mini 10 (1012) review

The Dell Mini 1012 has some well-implemented features that make it stand out above the sea of competing netbooks. We like the great display, big keyboard and fantastic build quality. It's a little on the pricey side, but if you're in the market for a...

Superior build quality ; High-resolution display ; Good battery life

Tiny trackpad ; A little pricey

It's a shame the trackpad isn't more comfortable though, and at £300 you will find cheaper netbooks out there. There's very little to dislike about the Mini 1012 though -- if you're fresh on the netbook scene or looking for something new, by all means...

Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 review

Netbooks are perfectly good for basic internet and office tasks, but are usually incapable of playing high definition (HD) video. To overcome this some manufacturers have fitted their netbooks with HD-capable graphics chips, but these can shorten...

Its HD support might not be up to much and the touchpad's annoying, but the high-resolution screen makes this a desirable choice.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1012)

A premium-quality 10-inch netbook with thoughtful design, the new Inspiron Mini 10 sells for an attractively low price.

Nice looks, six color choices ; Well designed, very good build quality ; Excellent battery life, over 8 hours ; Great keyboard ; Useful online data backup software ; Well-priced

Relatively small touchpad ; No Wi-Fi 802.11n

The new Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is a stylish, good-looking 10-inch netbook. It packs in a nice keyboard and offers excellent battery life of over 8 hours. Best value for money netbook to buy right now.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 New (1012)

Dell tries to perfect the netbook formula with their new iteration of the Mini

Cool design and variety of colored tops available, very good battery life, easily workable keyboard and touch-pad, compact charger, well priced, 3 configurations to choose from

Gets heated at the bottom under intensive use, HDMI port, which was available in the earlier model, has been removed

Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Review

The Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 or 'New Mini 10' as it's also known on the Dell website is another Atom based netbook, and as the name suggests it has a 10 inch screen (10.1 actually) - the difference here is that it's a higher resolution than...

"Perfect for my needs!"

I use this as my main system, and will do everything I throw at it. Upgrade to 2GB RAM and an SSD, and this little netbook screams...with the added bonus of NO mechanical moving parts! 100% silent!

Lightweight and small, but the keyboard is still large enough for touch typing. I've got the HD version, so I've got plenty of screen real estate. After upgrading to 2GB of RAM and an SSD, this feels every bit as responsive as a standard laptop. With the

The mouse pad takes some getting used to, and can act up at times. The black top is a fingerprint magnet...I plan on swapping this out with a white top (which will look asthetically better as well).
