Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1

It's costly, but the Dell Latitude 5290 detachable 2-in-1 hybrid hits all the bases to satisfy business users and IT managers alike.

Nice variety of ports and sign-in options. Bright, colorful screen. Good battery life.

Extremely pricey. Thunderbolt 3 only on Core i7 model.

Bottom Line: It's costly, but the Dell Latitude 5290 detachable 2-in-1 hybrid hits all the bases to satisfy business users and IT managers alike.

Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1 Review

Thanks to their fold-up designs, detachable 2-in-1s are a portable way to get work done on the road. Dell's Latitude 5290 2-in-1 ($899 to start; $1,770.40 as tested) is the company's latest attempt at making a Microsoft Surface-style machine for...

Auto-deploy kickstand; Clear webcam; Long battery life

Poor speakers; Even expensive options start at 128GB of storage

The Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1 has a cool auto-deploying kickstand and long battery life. But its speakers are poor, and it costs too much to come with so little storage.

robust case ; VGA available ; above-average CPU performance ; good battery life ; relatively good speakers ; two RAM slots

abysmal HD TN display ; no pointing stick ; lack of keyboard illumination ; bad positioning of the microSD card reader ; only 12 months of warranty ; only a SATA-III SSD

The Latitude 5290 is a compact laptop that Dell has optimized through and through for use in business - with all the advantages and disadvantages that are accompanying such an orientation towards specific target groups. Even though the Dell Latitude...

Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1

A Surface Pro clone with a newer and faster CPU, USB-C ports, optional Thunderbolt 3 and serviceable internals. The 5290 replaces the 5285 we reviewed last year, and it boasts Intel 8th gen Kaby Lake R U series Core i5 and i7 CPUs, up to 16GB RAM and...

Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1 review

The hybrid that might actually replace your laptop, if you can afford it

Whisper quiet ; Sturdy build ; Strong selection of ports ; Crisp display

Cramped, shallow keyboard ; Disappointing battery life ; Not lap-friendly

With solid hardware, a rugged but elegant build, tight security features, and a certain cool factor, the Latitude 5290 is everything the on-the-go professional wants – but it isn’t cheap.
