Dell Latitude D520 Review (pics, specs)

The Dell Latitude D520 is a standard aspect ratio road-ready business notebook following in the footsteps of Dell's Latitude D510 but sporting an updated processor and sleek new looks. Dell's small business web site states that the Latitude D520 offers...

Solid build quality with little flex, Strike Zone hard drive protection Clean and sleek looks that will do well in a business environment Impressive battery life Good office application performance Included (but not standard) 8x DVD Writer Solid...

No pointing stick option, no third mouse button (though it can be emulated) Left palm rest gets warm under regular usage Standard aspect ratio instead of widescreen No dedicated graphics

Overall I am very pleased with Dell Latitude D520. While this particular configuration lacks in high end bells and whistles like a top of the line processor or dedicated graphics, it does offer an excellent balance of power and capability housed in a...

Dell Latitude D520

If you're in the market for a well-built, functional and versatile business laptop, you could do worse than the D520. The beauty of the Latitude is in its simplicity – and its low price tag.

Provided you don't want it to double up as an entertainment tool, the Latitude has everything that a good business laptop should have: a good turn of speed, long battery life and high build quality. The price tag should please, too.

Dell Latitude D520 review

While the Latitude D520 won't wow you in any one respect, its satisfying combination of speed, battery life, features and price will serve basic users well

Reasonable price ; Solid mobile performance and battery life ; Reinforced frame ; Lots of component choices, including Intel Core Duo processors

No discrete graphics option ; Lacks a fingerprint sensor ; No built-in WWAN capability

The Latitude D520 also finished far ahead in our battery tests: it lasted just 8 minutes shy of 5 hours, improving on its predecessor, the Latitude D510, by 50 minutes. The Lenovo, on the other hand, managed only 3 hours 9 minutes, and the Toshiba...

Spare battery with free computer

I bought a tricked out dual core D520 circa 2006, just before Vista came out for about $2600 , it came with a Vista upgrade. I've since upgraded it to Windows 7. It's been a real workhorse of a machine.

Got this for $159, not much more then the price of a spare D series battery ; Windows 7/Vista 64 bit drivers are available from Dell ; The model has only been out of production for about 4 years ; Max 4GB DDR2 memory upgradable and SATA 150 Disk Drive

The one I got had a severe abrasion mark across the upper center of the LCD, once I powered it up, there was also a 1/4 inch around screen imperfection. Lots of dings, scratches and chips. There's no refund on this item and no guarantee a replacement...

Great budget laptop

i got this computer for school. i dont need it to do all the things that i listed as cons. yes it would be nice to have all of those, but so would be getting solid gold toilet. if you want a quick system for the cheap for word processing and a bit...

if you intend to do some upgrades to help with some of the bottleneck issues of this current setup, this laptop is a great steal. Even without the upgrades that i did to it, upon booting up windows xp home, the laptop performed well beyond my...

as i said, if you plan to get this, make sure you are ready to do some upgrades. and these upgrades are a pain. the 2nd dimm slot is located underneath the keyboard. who designed that? the hdd was simple enough, but i noticed as i was disassembling...

Good cheap laptop, but not the most network-friendly

Good price, handles most computing needs admirably.

Has some networking bugs. Support is sketchy.

Product Specifications

The Latitude D520 was designed and built with the rigors of the road in mind. Every Latitude notebook is stress-tested in extreme conditions to be sure that it can withstand the physical challenges it will meet in the normal course of a business day. These shock and fatigue tests, along with the D520's magnesium-alloy internal frame, steel hinges and patented Dell Strike Zone technology, mean that you get a notebook that is designed to last, no matter how bumpy the road gets. Dual-core processors allow your D520 to split tasks between two separate processor cores so that they can share the load and get more done in less time. The processors do more work per second, allowing you to run multiple applications with noticeably quicker results.
