Dell Precision M4600 Review: Mobile Workstation Muscle

The 15-inch Dell Precision M4600 goes far beyond your typical business notebook. This impressively durable powerhouse is available with just about every high-end component you can imagine ... but is it worth more than $4,000? Keep reading to find out.

Great 1080p IPS display option ; Plenty of ports ; Extreme performance

Poor battery life ; Thick and heavy ; Weak backlit keyboard ; Expensive if heavily customized

Dell Precision M4600

The Dell Precision M4600 is a 15-inch laptop with an Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and Nvidia graphics with a dedicated 2GB of video memory. While it is touted as a mobile workstation, it is quite heavy and bulky, but it has many...

REVIEW: Dell Precision M4600

The Dell Precision workstation family caters for all types of designers and engineers, from those using entry-level 2D CAD, right up to high-end simulation software. But workstation-class performance and reliability doesn't end on the desktop. Ten...

However, it’s heavy, the 9-cell (97Wh) battery is good for just 3 hours, and the optional extras mean you’ll need deep pockets. We’d also have liked a bigger trackpad. It’s worth noting that its bigger brother, the Precision M6600, offers even better...

Very good product

A very clean looking product which has enough resources to be a mobile server.

They shipped me a M4700 and i loved the free upgrade and its new specs.

Just a minor ding on the front left and its barely noticeable for considering the free upgrade i don't care since its a refurb product

Hard to beat for the money if the bulk doesn't bother you

If you're looking for a thin and light "ultrabook" this isn't it (look at the ThinkPad "X" series, Precision M3800, etc. if that is what you're looking for and be prepared to pay a healthy premium for "thin and light"), but if you need a powerful and...

-Very powerful/Fast (runs circles around the 1 year old mid-grade i5 Toshiba Satellite it replaced) -Excellent durability/build quality (Built like a tank) -easy upgradability (entire bottom panel removes with two screws allowing easy access to...

-Big and bulky, but that is pretty much expected of a desktop replacement class laptop and necessary for adequate cooling and to allow for upgradability and a durable chassis.

Fast, rugged, heavy duty

Very fast, plenty of ram, very rugged. Great battery life. I bought this laptop because I needed a rugged high performance laptop. My previous laptop was a Sony that quickly fell apart under normal everyday use. So far my Dell M4600 been great. I feel...

The only con that I feel regarding this machine is that it is big and heavy. The laptop weighs 6.5 pounds and the formfactor is about 2 inches deep. Other than that it's perfect.

This computer is FAST

This is the fastest computer I have ever owned. For a laptop it is bulky, but it has the speed of a desktop which more than compensates. In addition, it has been a reliable, low maintenance machine. I have never had trouble doing anything on this...

Speed, durability

bulky, low battery life
