Dell Studio 17 (model 1747)

With the average laptop, one sticky issue is the relatively small size of the display and keyboard--a necessary trade-off to keep users from suffering muscle strain while toting the notebook around. However, if you're looking for a system that you can...

Lots of screen acreage ; Excellent performance

Lacks pizzazz ; Confusing port arrangement

Dell's Studio 17 is a solid design that comes in a wide variety of configurations.

Dell Studio 17

The Studio 17 has flair, but it lacks a few key features it needs to keep up with the competition.

WUXGA display. Stylish. Good battery life in this weight class. Abundant wireless options. Backlit keyboard. Color and IMD options bring flavor to the design.

Trails the competition in expansion features. Lack of processor options for now. Graphics card is not very impressive.

Dell Studio 17 (Multitouch)

Screen sizes vary with media centers; the most common fall between 17 and 18.4 inches. The Studio 17's 17.3-inch widescreen is not only bright and sharp, it's also versatile. The resolution is upgradeable to 1,920 by 1,080, though the 1,600-by-900...

Quad-core processing. Multitouch screen is an interesting twist. Three video-out options. Excellent battery life for a media center laptop. Configurable. Dual hard drive support. Great gaming scores. Superb user experience. Over 200 designs to choose from

Very heavy for a 17-inch laptop

The Dell Studio 17 (Multitouch) media center laptop is crammed with all the latest technologies, including a multitouch screen, an Intel quad core processor, and humongous battery that will give you over 4 hours of battery life.

Gaming Studio. Dell's 17-inch studio series brings power for appl

High performance for applications; Fit for gaming; Stable, well-designed case; Large, precise touchpad; Good sound; Integrated 3G/HSPA module; Open hard drive bay; Sufficient number of ports

Spring-action keys; Low contrast and viewing angle; Noisy cooling system, even at idle; High amount of waste heat

Those put off by noise and waste heat would do well to look at the Asus N71JV. The GT325M is however, much weaker than whats on offer here. Or the Samsung NP-R780 with the GT330M. Both of them remain quieter and cooler in operation. For those that...

Noisy load operating; Extreme heating under load; Very hot adapter; Average display; Quite heavy; Partly very expensive surcharge positions

Dell Studio 17 Review

Is the 17-inch Dell Studio 17 as impressive and unique as Dell wants you to believe? Keep reading and you'll find out

Beautiful design ; Solid selection of available configurations ; Reasonable battery life ; Nice keyboard, touchpad and media buttons ; Great component layout ; Dell Dock is a nice feature ; Good value for the price

No lugs/screw posts for VGA cable and no docking station connector ; All-in-one access cover on the bottom of the notebook is either great or frustrating ; No option for better graphics than ATI Radeon HD 3650 at this time

Bottom line, you'll be hard pressed to find a better 17-inch notebook in the same price range at the time of this writing
